NIX NIGHT Shadow of the Night
Red hair brushed from her shoulders and in to the wind as nix stood up, her hands covered in a small bubble as she bent over the water of the lagoon. She had hidden herself around the side of one of the rocks and found a few leaves she noted were close to acacia pods she she knew and has used as soap in other times before now, though that had been more for fun and as a test but this was for real. It made a big difference, her skin was clean and her hair was clean and now she could move on to the next thing. Goal after goal, keep moving forwards and dont pause to let oneself think.
She moved through the water, ducking under it once more and pulling herself up close to the shore. Her eyes darting around her before she pulled her clothes to her side. She had already cleaned them, they came before her since she didnt want anything to be dirty if she wore it. that was a great way to get something infected or cause a different issue, she didnt want to be there. Pulling herself from the water, she pulled her other clothes closer and on to her body. She let her hair hang down her back as she pulled her rucksack on to her shoulder and then grabbed her free stick and started back towards the crash site.
She was clean, her head was cool. She lifted her bandage as she water, it had been soaked in water now and was cooler so wrapping it around the cut on her head seemed to help. It was swelling less, she felt dizzy less often so she was sure it was getting better. Her eyes moved forwards as she pulled the wrapping tight and noted the crash ahead of her, twisted metal seeming to come closer with every step she took

Dead bodies. People that used to be alive. People that she had helped onto the plane. Swallowing hard, Lori pulled up her big girl panties. The brush from the jungle had torn apart her feet, and she needed shoes. She couldn't expect to move to the caves with this upcoming storm if she didn't have some type of protection from the elements. With shaky hands, Lori moved into the remains of the plane. She needed to find something as close to her size as possible. It just didn't make sense to waste the resources that were presented to her. For a brief moment, she wondered if Zach would be proud to hear her think something like that. Survival was key.
She climbed through the cabin of the plane, dropping down to look at the feet of anyone who had suffered in the crash. So many bodies hung limply in their seat belts. The flight attendant in her was happy that they had been smart enough to hook them on. But honestly? Look where they ended up. She swallowed for a moment, trying to remember if she had indeed buckled her seat belt or not when the plane suddenly dropped in the air. With a shake of her head, she moved to the next victim, accidentally looking him in the face.
The flashback started, and she sat back down on her butt as she was wracked with images and sounds that she desperately wanted to forget. She gasped as she the image of her standing, handing this man a drink came to her mind's eye. Suddenly, all she remembered was grabbing the handle of the cart for stability, but falling into a crumpled mess at the feet of this man as the plane wrecked to the island.
Briefly, she wondered if everyone that was alive had not been wearing a belt. Wouldn't that be ironic? She attempted to snap herself out of this, but it was hard as she looked down at the man's feet. She continued on, finally coming to a woman wearing sneakers. She swallowed hard as she began to untie the laces. She didn't want to think about the fact that she was stealing from a dead person, but it was a necessity. With a heavy heart, she removed the woman's socks as well, finding that the girl had painted her toes a pretty pink color. Lori turned away quickly, and tried pulling on the shoes to find that they weren't a perfect fit, but they were close enough to work for her.

NIX NIGHT Shadow of the Night
Nix took a breath as she came to the edge of the crash site, she knew it was the edge for the wing had fallen here. It was bent where it must have struck something, maybe a tree as it came down, but it was bent over so it almost seemed like an arch. Nix ducked under it and moved forwards only to note a sound, her hand curled for a moment before she sighed and flexed it again. Whatever, if they were alive they would find her.
She turned and looked around, noting a few fallen cases over to her right and so she wandered over to them. Two were crushed by metal and whatever they had held were long since scattered or stolen, one was covered by the same large bit of metal but seemed well enough. It was fabric, maybe it had bounced as it fell, and seemed to be ripped over the side but actually still done up. Nix dropped to her knees with a little thump, a soft sigh escaping her as she heard a sound again close to her and lifted her gaze. No, best to do this quickly. If someone else was here, they could find this and take whatever was in it. Nix pushed herself forwards, pushing the metal on to the sand and stone with a loud sound before she gripped the case and pulled it to her knees

Lori was still scavenging, looking for anything that could be of use to her. She grabbed a few rips of clothing and tied them around her arms, attempting to cover the wounds that were still festering. She would need to get those taken care of as soon as she could. After finding a few things that she wanted, including a backpack that was in pretty good shape, she found her way out of the crash, new sneakers feeling like heaven on her feet after a week of walking around barefoot. She glanced over and saw several people milling about, most of them looking absolutely lost and broken. She imagined that this was exactly what she had looked like the night before when Zach had found her.
There was one girl that stuck out to her, and she didn't seem as dejected as everyone else. Lori didn't need all this negativity. She was getting over her issues, and she needed to regain her strength again. She needed to eat more, and she needed to start back in her strength training that she had been so fond of before the tragedy. Lori pulled her hair back, tying it back with her ascot from her attendant's outfit as she moved over to the ginger girl's side. "What'chu got there?" she asked, smoothing over the pony tail with her long fingers. She figured that if it was something useful, the two could get started on something. She hated this sitting around that everyone was doing. She had had her meltdown, and she was ready to move on to survival.

NIX NIGHT Shadow of the Night
Nix pushed her fingers forwards, pulling on the zip and opening the front pocket to reveal nothing and she rolled her eyes and sighed softly. She leaned back and pushed her hands in to the side of the case and pushed it open. Though it was then she heard the voice, turning her head and seeing a woman over her and nix felt her eyes narrowed. "Dunno, lets see" she said in a curt voice, her eyes moving from the zip she had pulled back before her hands threw the lid of the case open. Her eyes opened wide as she saw the case and her heart sank, bile rising in her throat. She could make out a few things, a plushie of some rabbit and a few board games that were clearly arrange around maths. A pair of sun dresses were folded up in one corner and then a matching hat and some sandles and even a few books. the case had been so big to keep the plushie from getting crushed it seemed, nix had assumed it was one belonging to an adult from the size of the case and the fact is was fabric but this had just caught her so off guard she didnt even know what to say.

Lori hadn't expected the tone, and was about to snap at the young girl for being bitchy, but right as she opened her mouth, it fell open at the sight of all the children toys. She bit back any words she had in her and looked away. "I'm sorry I asked. I just figured it was time to get a move on doing something," she said back quietly, feeling her throat close at the thought of babies and children. She hadn't noticed many children around the island, but she had known that there had been a newborn on the plane when she ushered them all on. The thought made her want to throw up what little she had in her stomach.
"Do you want to get out of here?" she asked, noting that the girl also looked just as uncomfortable as she was in this situation. Lori turned away from the crate, no longer able to look at the pink pile of things. She wasn't really one for kids, but she had a heart. Lori rubbed her hand over her lips, looking back at the girl. "I'm Lori," she said, in hopes that maybe being a person would help this girl treat her like one.

NIX NIGHT Shadow of the Night
Nix could feel her chest shifting, she wanted to be sick. She could remember there being a child on the plane, it kept crying and she had woken up from it so she had remembered it. Though she was also sure she remembered a pair of twins, a boy and a girl she had passed getting to her seat at the back of the plane and they had been fighting over who was going to sit beside the window. She didnt know of course, it didnt have to be that little blonde girl who had been pulling on her brothers hair but it could have been. Nix could have found her case, and there was no child on the island alive that she had seen.
The voice above her spoke again and nix flinched, she had actually forgotten she wasnt alone here but her head changed at this. "No, give me a second" she said, reaching down and moving through the bag. There was no wash bag, something that might have been useful for bottles so nix turned her gaze to what there was. She could have taken the dresses, it would have been something to use for wounds but she always was going to remember where the color were from so she took a breath and picked up the rabbit.
Standing up and turning, she noted the female was still there and now rubbing her face. "Nix" The red head commented dryly, her hands curling a little around the rabbit and lifting it to her side. She was going to say it was for the stuffing, it would be the perfect fire starter material of course. Though it was a lie, she couldnt bare the idea of the girl being around here somewhere and gone and so she felt like carrying something that had been so important to her kept the idea of a child surviving this alive. Nix needed that hope, she couldnt bare to think she had lived when some poor child hadnt.

Lori wasn't quite sure what the younger girl was thinking. She couldn't have been much younger than herself, maybe 5 or 6 years? She wasn't sure, but she still thought it strange that she was taking the rabbit from the crate. She did not say anything though as she turned on her heel to walk away from the box full of pain. "It's nice to meet you, Nix," she said back, running her hand through her hair before tucking it back behind her ear.
"I don't mean to bother you," she admitted, looking at the girl before rubbing her arms around the wounds. "I just hate sitting around and waiting for something to happen. This storm is going to be here any time, and I think it's best we start doing something about it. We aren't going to be able to weather it out here," she told the girl, thinking back to what Zach had said about him thinking it was a hurricane. She hoped deep down in her being that it wasn't, but you could never be sure without the weather app or channel telling you what it was.
Growing up New York had left her with very little survival skills. She knew how to swim, how to run away from things, and climb. That was about it. In terms of knowing how to live without the comforts of her New York apartment, she was completely clueless. She had never been a girl scout, had never really gone camping without preplanned meals, shelter, and water. This was a whole new beast for her, and grabbing her empty stomach, she wasn't sure how well she would survive this.

NIX NIGHT Shadow of the Night
Nix curled her arm around the rabbit and looked up as the female offered a greeting and nix nodded her head before she took a breath, sighing softly. "I havent been paying much attention, im going from day to day right now" she said honestly, her eyes moving to the sky as the storm was mentioned. She had a feeling something was coming, it was so calm and the wind was so low all the time that they were due something nasty pretty soon she expected.
She pushed forwards, her eyes watching the sky above her before she shook her head and looked back to the female with a little gulp. "we have time to keep looking, but there wont be any food here in these cases and if there is it wont be good i expect" she said as she looked around again, her shoulders shifting and the bag on her back moving a little further down her spine to sit easier.

Lori never had a knack for admitting failure or anything of that sort. She always oozed with confidence, but at a time like this she was willing to admit her ignorance. This girl wasn't really warming up to Lori, but she had noticed that she had enough bravery to go through crates and actually start doing something. She did seem to be rather quiet though, so Lori wasn't sure how this was going to go. She had not interacted with anyone besides Zach, and it was time to change that. If she wanted to survive, she'd start having to make friends. Internally, she wanted to shudder at that. She was not really the friend type. Being incredibly selfish in relationships could do that to you.
"So, I'm from New York and never really learned any of this survival stuff. I'm not saying you do know, NIx, because I don't really know you at all. But, I just thought maybe if you did know anything, you could help me out. I literally have no idea how to get any food around here, and if it is as scarce at it seems to be now, I don't know what is going to happen when it all disappears," she blurted out, running a stressed hand through her hair. She couldn't waste a cigarette yet. The storm was brewing, and she knew Zach's plan was to move them all out sometime today or tomorrow. She had to save it for when she really really needed it.

NIX NIGHT Shadow of the Night
Well she should have seen that coming. The world has literally crashed around them and while nix was able to cling on firmly to her cold side and try not to attach to anything or anyone, some were going to just keep bursting out like this. "Lets say i had a lot of experience by force" she said stiffly, taking a breath before she turned to the other girl and nodded her head. "First thing is first, you can eat palm heart which is a good source of carbs and pretty filling and seeing as this is a tropical island we should be fine for that. The bigger issue is water but i can help there" she said as she flicked her wrist and brought out her bottle.
She had a fair few little bottles too, she had found the wash bag and cleaned it out before boiling a little water at the lake and now she had these filled safely but she was thinking of them as portion controlled while her own flat pack bottle was more for things like this. She had expected to use it over broken skin or wounds but those beginning to lose the plot would be a good use for it too so she held it out for the other female to use, taking a breath herself.

Lori wasn't entirely sure what she meant by being forced to participate in life survival skills. Did her mom make her be a girl scout? Did she once get lost on a camping trip? With these ideas running through her head she picked up a rock and rolled it over and over in her hand as they walked together. "What do you mean you were forced?" she finally asked, turning to look at the younger girl. She didn't know if that was too personal, and by her tone, she assumed that Nix was probably perpetually pissed off. Could she blame her? No, not really. Lori was starting to reach her perpetually pissed off phase too.
She was thankful that the girl started to share some lifesaving tips. "What are palm hearts?" she asked, looking up at the tall fronds that hung above them all, shielding them from the cloudy sky. When she looked back down the girl offered her a bottle of water. Lori accepted it with a smile. "Thank you very much," she said with a smile bringing it to her lips and taking a sip. Water had never been one of her favorites, but when it hit her tongue she had a new appreciation for the substance. She sighed happily and offered it back to her. She could have drowned in that like she wanted to with alcohol.

NIX NIGHT Shadow of the Night
Nix did flinch as the girl spoke and asked about things, though she waited until she spoke again and then handed back nix water bottles. The red head didnt say a word as she clicked it back on to her belt and then looked around for a palm tree, her eyes noted one close by and then her mouth moved. "My parents hated me. Beat me, starved me, cut me..." She said as she walked over towards the palm tree before rolling up her sleeves, the long deep scars on her arms clear in the sunlight as her hands moved over the trunk and then she took a breath again. "I had to learn to live on my own or i would have died, thus i went outside the house and learned to live in the forest. Watching animals and birds and picking up their skills, sure i had a few lessons and trips once i managed to make money to get away but most of it is basic from then" she said as her hands gripped on to the loose bark and then she pulled. The trunk groaned before it fell over to one side and nix pushed away at the harder wood before looking in to the middle of the trunk, "Here" she said as she pushed her fingers in to the fibers and pulled out a small bit of white heart, "it would be easier with a knife but i havent found one yet" she said as she tried to pull away a bit for herself.

Maybe it was the girl's age, or maybe it was the offhanded way that she explained her situation. She hadn't really asked for it in that detail, and in full honesty, did not even want it. She just managed a small "Oh," when she finished explaining her parents abuse. Typically, people would apologize, but Lori hadn't done anything to the girl, so how did she owe her an apology? She walked silently along with the young woman after a while, avoiding eye contact. What kind of person shared something that deep with another when only meeting them for five minutes? She had just been expecting something like, 'I was outside a lot', but instead had gotten that.
Lori turned to the tree, and watched with curious eyes as Nix was able to pull the tree down and show her precisely what a palm heart was. How she knew that she needed that particular piece of tree, she was not sure. Lori did know that Nix would be a very, very useful person to have around. She took the small heart offered to her, and bit down on it. It was rather crunchy, but honestly, anything was good at this point. She chewed on it a while, watching Nix play around with the tree a bit more. In her mind, Lori decided that she needed to stick around with Nix as much as possible to learn her tricks.
"What else do you know?" she asked, ready to begin this journey.

NIX NIGHT Shadow of the Night
Nix could see on the other girls face that what she had said had caught her off guard, something that actually made nix smirk. Nix was used to this reaction, most said sorry or wanted to feel bad for her but she had dealt with so much that she just handed out the issue to anyone without any worry. She didnt care who knew, she was upfront about it. She just didnt want anyone babying her over it, so she kept away from going right in to certain details.
Her fingers wrapped around a little bit of fiber and she pulled on it and lifted it from the tree, feeding herself and chewing through the heart quickly before leaning over and taking another bit. Going from the amount of trees here and the age of them, she was sure they could last on this for a fair while before having to worry about other things but she did wonder about protein as well. Though the other girl was talking again now so nix leaned back and took another bit of the heart to eat as she listened, she chewed through it as she thought of how to answer. "A lot of it is basic, reading the signs of the ground for animal and following them for water or knowing the right plants to eat or use as a herbs. Knowing we have both food and water is good now, i just have no idea where we have to shelter" she said as she looked around, though her mind told her to move to higher ground for a start.
