Zach had actually enjoyed the beach party. The energy of it all was refreshing and, for once, he didn't feel like a "leader" or a babysitter. He was just Zachary, blending into a crowd of people with high spirits. The monkey meat was ridiculously tasty, too. More of an oily dark meat texture, like pork. Everyone needed that extra boost of nutrition.
The party was two nights ago. Zach had gotten so used to eating little amounts at a time that it had been hard to finish all of the meat. He was surprised that he didn't feel hungry today. In fact, he was feeling extremely off somehow - he couldn't place it. He had stayed in the Wonder Hole with Lori last night and maybe he was just a little hung over? He was feeling warm, so he decided that morning that he would take a trek over to the Lagoon for a cold dip in the springwater.
He discarded all clothes but his boxers and was soaking in the freezing cold water. He felt immediately better and took a leisurely swim for a few minutes.
Then, as he pulled himself onto the rocks, a wave of nausea hit him. He vomited onto the stone shore without much of a warning, and felt his headache worsening. A bird cawed nearby and Zach was reminded of the mile or two walk back to the camps, but he suddenly felt too sick to do anything but lay there next to his puddle of throw up.

Lately the callouses on his feet allowed for Logan to be less cautious about how he strolled through his new life. The jungle and its twigs, vines and rocks did little to deter him so on days like today he found himself able to intrude on his thoughts as he went to fill daily tasks... like water. They only had a couple old soda cans, two water bottles and a little pot not much bigger than the bottled waters so staying hydrated was an issue. He didn't mind making the trek though... especially since he hadn't really been able to create the pots out of clay like he'd hoped.
It was a lot harder to bake something useful like they needed to make the effort and trips more useful than the bottles and cans. It wasn't like he had a kiln. He had a little oven that got hot... but didn't really have the capability to produce anything big. Not yet anyways. He also didn't want to create something that was big enough to get out of control in their little campsite surrounded by... well... their sleeping matts made out of kindling-like materials, and trees.
Still he made a steady progress. He even needed to make a separate pit outside of the actual camp to help produce clay since the hole had gotten fairly large. Yeah... filling that had been a bit of a bitch. All of the labor was a bigger bitch though. Thankfully the payout was worth the effort. Still, he couldn't be more relieved to show up at the Lagoon for a relaxing dip in the icy- hold up... what the fuck was Zach doing here?
He froze, watching the asshole who was ready to throw him out into a hurricane throw up the contents of whatever pathetic meal he'd no doubt barely scrounged together across the rocks near the shore. "Well... you certainly look like shit, don't you?" he said, standing barely twenty feet from him with his arms crossed over his chest. "Get sick of looking at your reflection in the water so you had to make a mess all over the rocks? Seems kind of melodramatic if you ask me.."

He felt pretty much like shit, and throwing up the contents of his stomach didn't have him feeling any better like it should have. For a moment, he actually felt a flash of fear as a stomach cramp sent him curling up in the fetal position with an angry, pained grunting sound. What was going on? Had he caught the flu or something? Nobody seemed to be sick as far as he knew. He tried not to panic. He didn't mind being alone, really. No use having people doting all over him, or heck, even infecting the others... Yeah. It was better this way.
He felt himself calm down a level or two. At least, until he looked up to see Logan was standing close by. Fabulous. The fear came back. He didn't want to die with this guy as the only one around. He swallowed bile back as Logan taunted him from his position just some feet away. His eyes spoke of enough disdain to have Zach actually wondering if this really was how he'd die. He'd made an enemy out of Logan by choice, and perhaps it was time he paid for it.
He still thought the guy was a true asshole, though.
He tried to lift himself up to a sitting position, and felt a hot flash that turned into a cold sweat. He took some deep breaths, keeping his eyes on Logan in case he tried something funny.
"I'm the most fucking melodramatic shit you'll ever meet. I wouldn't hang around long if I were you."
His stomach heaved once but he managed to keep the vomit down. He probably didn't have anything else left in their anyway, so perhaps whatever had hit him would fade away slowly. The headache stayed right as it was, though, almost masking the pains of his upset stomach. Headaches were just the worst!
"''Specially cause I bring out the whiny bitch in you, too," he added, though his voice had lost its lace of good humor. He had not idea what would happen here, but stubborn Zach wasn't about to sit here and take crap from Logan while he felt like this.

Maybe Logan should be more worried about this sickness then he was... not for Zach's sake, obviously, but for Taya and any other person he came in contact with that he actually cared half a shit for. As for the state of Zach, Logan couldn't care any less. In fact he was quite sure this was some level of karma. The only thing he didn't like was that he knew that if it was Karma he probably was next and boy was that going to suck.
At least Zach could admit his flaws. Or... was he being sarcastic? Logan couldn't tell. All that he really knew was that he was in bad shape. Being stupid and helpless was one thing; if he couldn't feed himself because he refused to learn then Logan would let him starve. Illness was an entirely different beast entirely. And though he didn't care about Zach, his conscience and his code made it his business whether this piece of shit at least made it to a place where he could have a fighting chance.
Every ounce of pride told him to just walk away.. he had no doubt Zach's would to. Still, he would walk closer to him, tossing the satchel with their cans and bottles aside before holding out a hand to the illness-stricken man who he had come to dislike so intensely.
"You're fucking useless, you know that? C'mon... lets get your ass back to your camp dumb ass.."
It was clear by the look on his face that it wasn't as much of a friendly gesture as it could have been. In truth it was just practical. Maybe next time there was a hurricane there wouldn't be as much animosity towards his presence as their had been. Still, he hoped Zach refused his help... then he could leave... right? No, he'd probably just knock his ass out and/or drag him back to his camp so his conscience could rest easy.

Zach really didn't have it in him to be in any altercation right now and yet it was odd to see the way things were heading. His body instinctively braced for violence that did not come. His eyes flickered wildly between his own pains and Logan's every move. Looks like he didn't have anything to fear from Logan. All the angry hours spent pondering on Logan's character had him preconditioned to believe that this man was a lowlife who did not care about other people. But this guy wasn't throwing any blows while he was down, and Zach was honestly amazed to see that he was actually offering him a hand to help him out.
What had made him think that stuff, anyway? Just that one moment on the beach, way back when, when Logan seemed to have triggered Zach's last nerve. It was a bad time for Zach. For everyone else too, of course, but Zach in particular had been wondering how much longer he was going to last until a final breakdown. Back then, Joey was still lost, and other people were still dying, too.
It was almost back to square one for him. He felt helpless in that moment. And pride made it hard to roll over and pretend he and Logan actually were on good terms. But they weren't, and it made Zach wary. The other option, though; be left alone here to die. It was a scary thought but perhaps not completely far off from what could happen. Zach chose to bite his tongue and strafe across this new territory that Logan had just formed with his unenthusiastic offer to help Zachary.
He didn't take the hand that was offered.
"I don't know what's going on, but I'm obviously sick. Don't want it spreading around, you know?" he explained to Logan, as he began to attempt standing up on his own. A wave of nausea made him wobbly and he suddenly fell back to the stone ground to endure a few more heaves. When it passed, he sat on his butt and looked up to Logan nearby, his eyes full of frustration. "Maybe I should stay away from everyone."
He was thinking of the worst; that he somehow could infect everyone, in the chance that it was a communicable illness. As much as he thought he hated Logan, he didn't want to see the guy incapacitated like this. It would mean he would need some taking care of, right?

The fact that he was once again refusing help caused Logan's fists to clench. For a moment he really did contemplate simply knocking him unconscious and dragging him back to his friends. He thought, though, briefly, on the little girl who had been sick earlier the previous day... had this been the same illness? That was concerning. That meant that whatever this was was contagious. So his hand retreated for just a split second. But who was he kidding? He was invincible, right?
"And when did you start caring about my well-being?" he said, reaching out to try and grab him. Now if Zach fought him he really would probably just drag him... he didn't seem to be in much of a position to hold his own at this point. If not then he would help the man to his feet, throwing his arm around his shoulder for balance. "Don't go soft on me now, shit head. The role of martyr doesn't fit you well... just makes you look like a pussy."

A martyr? Hah, that was pretty funny. Zach knew he wasn't what he was weeks ago. He used to really care about everyone as a whole. Lately he'd been in a kind of funk, thanks to his drinking problem. At least he kept that under the table, though. Main reason being that he didn't have to share his stash.
