Leonardo Matthew Brannon
Basic Information
Name: Leonardo Brannon
Nicknames: Leo, Gramps
Age: 74
Gender: Male
Orientation: Heterosexual
Status: Married
Hometown: New Orleans
Face Claim: Danny Glover
Essential Information
Appearance:
Leo is a very average man. In his age he has put on some weight, but now with the crash he is becoming a bit more toned in his body. His hair has since gone white and his beard is getting a little out of control, but he tries his best to stay clean and bathe at least once every two or three days. He was once a tall man, and that is rather obvious in the ways that he sometimes stands with his strong shoulders back. He now has a small limp and uses a makeshift cane to get around the island.
Personality: Leo is a loving man. He cares for others deeply and is very dependent on God to get him through this tragedy. He is incredibly spiritual and carries about each and every day in the Lord's honor, as he would say. He is not a selfish man or a fighter, but one to go about things rationally and really sit down with someone to make them think about their actions or words. He is very fatherly in the aspect that he likes to think of himself as everyone's grandpa on the island. He has even been coined the nickname "Gramps" from taking care of others emotions while he was incapable of moving around too much. He is incredibly sweet, but can be hard on others when he thinks they have more potential than what they are showing.
Possessions: He carries with him one copy of the bible, pages creased with wear and tear after many years of reading from cover to cover. He only has the clothes on his back and one other shirt that he had salvaged.
History:Leo had been born and raised in New Orleans. He grew up strict because of his Momma, whom he talks about often and fondly. He had a rather difficult childhood, growing up through multiple recessions and the days of inequality and racism. But, that did not make him a bitter man. He grew up in the church and still to this day firmly believes that the Lord will deliver them to their rightful places in Heaven where the pain and suffering of this world is no longer present.
He married the love of his wife, Gertie, at the ripe age of 18, and the two of them had a yard-full of kids. Seven to be exact. Leo loved his children more than the earth itself and raised them with a kind and understanding disposition. He and Gertie happily sent them all off to be adults on their own, and eventually supply the two of them with 12 grandchildren.
Unfortunately, one of their children, Jackson, died at age 32 of cancer. It left the family in turmoil and Leo became a bit more reserved, never dreaming the day that he would outlive one of his children. Disaster struck again 3 years later, which is now 11 years ago. Gertie caught pneumonia and died at age 61, leaving Leo to be the only grandparent to his 12 grandchildren now. His beloved wife gone, Leo began to pull into himself, only leaving the house to go to church and get his hair cut. Everything else he would stay in the home for. After five years, his children came to him, weeping that they needed him back, and so slowly he began to come back to the world. Despite becoming more like himself, he still went to Gertie's grave every day at 4pm and prayed with her.
After the Crash
Leo was one of the most unlucky of the plane crash. He leg, about halfway up his calf, was severed. He was one of the ones that everyone thought would be a for-sure goner. But, just as he had done in the past, Leo overcame this adversity, and with the help of many of the survivors, had been able to stop the bleeding in his leg and actually save his life. Now with a stub, he walks heavily with a makeshift cane, and for particularly long walks a makeshift crutch. He is just now getting to enough strength to be up and moving around, but he still tires easily. The entire time that he was "bed" bound, he would hold daily prayers and small church services for those who wished to attend.
