Tags @openWords 573Notes (/^▽^)/outfit | kaleidoscope eyes sparkle at the world I'm going to die. That was the only thought in Lily's head. Oh dear God, I'm going to die! Loud screams accompanied by a flash of colors and chaos flew before her, and then the world went dark and silent.
When she came to, the first thing she noticed was the sound of waves... the ocean? Lily moaned, noticing the aches and sharp pains on various spots of her body. She turned slightly, shifting onto her side, and then opened her eyes, blinking as she adjusted to her surroundings. Her head was throbbing and shapes swirled before her, so it took a moment for her to regain focus. When her vision cleared, she saw tall trees towering over her, with a bright blue sky stretching far above her. Beneath her was pale yellow sand, warm from sitting in the sun. She could feel the grains sticking to her legs, arms, and face. Turning to her right, she saw that she had, indeed, heard the ocean; waves were lazily lapping at the sand a few feet away from her.
But where was she? Lily couldn't think of how she got here. Everything was jumbled in her mind, and she couldn't think straight. Panic began to set in, and she turned around, wildly searching for some sort of explanation. And she got it; a 180 degree turn got her face to face with the smoking remains of a plane, nose-first into the sand. That was when it all rushed back to her; she had been on a plane, she was going to Chile to see her fiance, but there was a problem and it crashed. A guttural gasp escaped her throat, and she clamped a hand over her mouth in shock and disbelief.
For the first time, she noticed the stinging pain from a gash in her right shoulder, and she could feel hot blood dripping down her face. She reached up to her head, gingerly searching for the source of the blood. There was a large cut on the top of her forehead near the hairline, caked with mostly dried blood, some still oozing from the wound. Then she he reached a hand to her stomach, where the bulge from her pregnancy was prominent, as expected being six months pregnant with twins. Did the crash hurt the babies? Are they okay? What if they died? she thought frantically, praying for some sort of movement that would tell her they were okay. But she didn't feel anything, so either they weren't moving at that moment, or they were injured or dead. Please, please let them be okay. she thought desperately.
Shakily, Lily rose to her feet, trying not to stumble. She was a bit discombobulated from the event, but she would soon adjust and she couldn't just sit there. She had to find her bags; if she was lucky, her first aid kit had survived the crash. Being an over-cautious nurse who prepared for the worst was a good thing in this case, and she was certainly grateful that she had thought to bring it with her. Lily walked over to the crashed plane, trying not to look at the bodies of those who hadn't been as fortunate as she. One hand still gently cradling her swollen belly, she rummaged through the ruins, keeping an eye out for any belongings that had made it, and any survivors that might be in need of assistance. |

I've told a million lies but now I tell a single truth There's you in everything I do “You could come with me, you know?” the voice rang in his mind, clear as the day the words had been spoken to him. For a moment he was haunted by the face very similar to his own. His twin brother sat across the table, a sad smile on his face. He was dressed in fatigues, his dirty blond hair buzzed short making him look almost alien. A vision of himself if he himself had decided to go against everything they had been taught and ship off to join the army. “You’ll probably see more action than I will.”
Slowly Fritz’s eyes blinked open, trying to take in where he was. The memory of being tossed around the airplane coming back to him in pieces. He’d been out of his seat on his way back from the bathroom when the plane started to go down. At that point there wasn’t much he could do but try and not die… unlike the few he had landed around.
Once his dark brown orbs were able to focus he would find himself staring into the eyes of one of the passengers. The boy was young- maybe four or so. His body was hanging halfway into the aisle where he laid under the weight of the large overhead bags that had come down to crush him. Fritz grunted as he pulled himself up, feeling his stomach twist into knots as he reached out to try and check his pulse. The boy jerked slightly and he jumped into action. It was only when he was vertical that he saw the main injuries the boy had. His back was twisted impossibly, his lung collapsed. It was a horrible way to go and there wasn’t anything he could do… doctor or not.
Roused by the movement, the little boy wheezed, his glazed eyes unable to focus on the man who knelt down next to him. “Its okay,” he said softly as he lifted the boy’s head, hoping to reduce some of the pain he was in. As he moved his arm though he became aware of the tearing pain racking his own body. Now wasn’t the time to worry about himself though. He watched the boy jerk as if he was trying to cry, but without the ability to do so. “You aren’t alone, I’ve got you,” he said softly, but the boy’s struggles were slowly fading. Soon Fritz was left holding the little corpse, unable to bring himself to let go. So he picked the tiny thing up in his arms, limping as he walked towards the front of the plane.
The light from outside clawed at his retinas, making him stumble on his descent from the broken aircraft. The boy’s corpse landed in the sand, which was as far as Fritz could bring himself to take him. He rolled away into the sand, his mangled arm giving out under the pressure of him trying to use it to stand. But no emotion came to him. The shock of the crash coupled with the intense pain of his injuries made it impossible for him to feel anything at that moment. So he would simply try again to get to his feet, stumbling away from the plane and the tiny corpse. The entire right side of his body didn’t want to cooperate with him though, causing his movement to be awkward and stiff as he trudged towards the treeline. Why? He had absolutely no idea. Something in his mind just seemed to think that the further he was from the wreckage the more likely things would go back to normal.

Tags @openWords 439Notes (/^▽^)/outfit | kaleidoscope eyes sparkle at the world The lapping waves were a serene soundtrack to a horrific scene. Lily struggled to avoid looking at the dead bodies, only stopping to really look at one if there appeared to be a chance that they were alive. There was a teenage girl who looked to be around sixteen splayed on the ground, her legs caught under a hunk of metal. Lily approached, thinking there was a possibility of her being alive, but when she got closer she saw that the girl's skull had been crushed on the right side and blood was leaking out of her orifices; she was dead, and it was all Lily could do to not throw up at the sight. She worked in a hospital and saw death all the time, but this was different and more disturbing, and it shook Lily to her core. She turned away, averting her eyes from the gruesome bodies, trying to focus on the task at hand; finding her luggage.
Unfortunately, that was proving to be quite a challenge. She shifted some debris, hoping her bags might have been under a chunk of frame. For the first time she noticed that the pain in her right arm wasn't coming just from the cut; there appeared to be a fracture on her forearm. It didn't seem like a break, but it did prove incredibly difficult to use her arm. She pushed through the pain, tugging on the metal to see what was underneath it. Unfortunately she didn't find her bags, but rather another two mangled bodies. It was a horrifying experience, and she wanted nothing more than to run away from the wreckage, but she knew how important it was to find her.
Lily's eyes swept over the surroundings, and she spotted not her bags but rather a young man walking towards the trees. Relieved to spot someone alive, she temporarily abandoned her search, following the man. "Hey!" she called out to him, hoping he wouldn't be too startled by her voice. As she got closer, she noticed he was moving oddly; likely he was hurt from the crash. Once she got close enough to speak in a normal voice, she spoke again, "Hey, are you alright?" The question had an obvious answer, but she asked it anyways. "We probably should stay away from the forest for now... we don't know what's in there, and you look injured." Normally she would reach out to physically comfort an injured person, but she didn't know how he would react to any physical contact, so she kept her hands on her stomach to support her bulging belly. "I'm Lily, by the way." |

I've told a million lies but now I tell a single truth There's you in everything I do The tree line had almost been in arm's length when he heard the voice of another person. For a moment he ignored it, thinking it was just his imagination again. Actually, he was quite willing to simply write this entire experience off as some horrifying night terror of which he was quite ready to wake up from. But, on the off chance that he wasn't hallucinating he would actually turn back to look.
Those dark orbs traced this new form in front of him, testing his judgement on reality as he came to recognize her as an actual human being... one that was speaking to him. One that was trying to convince him to not go into the jungle of a place before him. It wasn't safe- she said. He didn't know what was in there-she said. Both were valid arguments that his brain really wanted to argue against. Especially since that once he looked at her he was forced to once again take in the sight of the wreckage.
"Oh," he replied slowly, seeming to chew on his options as he turned his body now towards her. "Oh..." It was all he was seemingly able to spit out at first, another wave of shock hitting his system. Something seemed to help snap him out of it though. It was a slow realization that she was in fact a real person; one that was injured... and possibly pregnant. "Oh..." he muttered out again, looking down at himself now as she mentioned his own injuries.
His own arm had turned an ugly array of colors from the fractures he had received. Under his suit jacket his pale blue shirt had turned a reddish color from the wetness seeping from his side. His leg hurt as well, but he was walking on it so he would take that as a good sign for now. Still, he was less concerned about his wounds as he was with hers now.
"Fritz," he said back to her, pausing at the awkwardness of that statement. "My name," he would start again with, "is Fritz. You look injured as well. Are you... okay?" The word was a bit forced. He knew that 'okay' was really just a fantasy at this point. How could anyone be okay after that? Still, it was basic conversation with another human being who wasn't dying in his arms.So it was better.

Tags @openWords 363Notes (/^▽^)/outfit | kaleidoscope eyes sparkle at the world There was a moment of silence between Lily speaking and the man replying where the two of them stared at each other as the air filled with the sound of ocean waves crashing on the beach. He then began to speak, first a string of "Oh"s that indicated that he was incredibly out of it; of course, who wouldn't be after being in a plane crash and waking up injured on what appeared to be an uninhabited island? She waited patiently for him to form a more full response, wondering how greatly his mental state was affected by the crash. The funny thing about being in the medical field was that Lily had begun to see every person, in and out of the hospital, as a patient, and if they appeared to be unwell, her medical education and motherly instincts kicked in all at once and she would immediately try to analyze the situation. This had it's perks, but also could sometimes be a bit detrimental.
After a few moments where the man confusedly took in the situation, it finally seemed to click with him, as he replied slowly, presenting his name. Fritz? That's an odd name, I wonder if it's short for something. Lily mused. She would ask about it later, but there were more pressing issues at the moment. "It's nice to meet you, Fritz, though I wish the situation was a bit better." She offered him a kind smile. He then continued on to ask if she was okay, probably spotting her wounds, "I've been better, but it could be a lot worse, so, circumstantially, I'm okay." She appreciated his concern. His injuries, however, seemed much more dire than hers, so she was more concerned about his well-being than hers... well, except the health of her children, which she put above all else. There wasn't really anything she could do about them at the moment, though, so she tried to put her worries about them in the back of her mind for the time being. "Come on, let's head back to the beach, away from the wreckage a bit. You can sit down and maybe we can do something about your wounds." |

I've told a million lies but now I tell a single truth There's you in everything I do
As she spoke, Fritz could tell that she was genuinely concerned. It was strange to be on the receiving end of the medical side of things. His life hadn't really been filled with the kind of excitement that frequently landed him in the hospital. It was always his brother. Spencer liked to say he was "living for the both of them". Usually as he was getting patched up by Fritz who would remind him of how stupid he'd been.
"Its nice to meet you too, Lily," he'd say to her.
The honorable thing would be to wave off his injuries, insisting that he helped sift through the wreckage for anymore survivors. It was something he knew he should do. As he was about to speak that very affirmation though he took a step, the pain shooting up his leg. It was all he could do to keep the pain from his face, let alone say that he was fine.
Defeated he would give her a nod, allowing her to take charge in what direction she wanted to go away from this place before he would follow with a bit of a limp. Each step was a reminder of what had happened and what they would have to be living with. But at least he wasn't the only one, right?
"When things settle a bit though I'm... going to need to take a look at your injuries," he would say to her, trying to distract himself from thinking too much about each step. "And try and salvage what we can from the... the.." what was that word again? He shook his head a bit, pinching the bridge of his nose. "Plane." It was almost as if his brain wanted to simply wipe out any kind of remembrance of the incident he was walking past.
He would bet that they could survive the jungle... but he wasn't quite ready to bet his life yet. Name: Fritz Lark Character's Mentioned in Post: n/a OOC: n/a

Tags @muttWords 417Notes sorry for the delay! outfit | kaleidoscope eyes sparkle at the world Lily could tell Fritz was in pain, though she wasn't sure the extent of the injuries; all she could tell from just looking was that he had hurt his arm and leg, judging by the discoloration and limping. The crash had been unkind to his body, though less brutal in comparison to the bodies in the wreckage. She was grateful that she had managed to get out with more minor injuries, though until she actually assessed the damage, she wouldn't know just how bad it was on her and on Fritz. Grateful that he agreed to follow her, she led him to a spot several feet away from the water and a bit away from the crash site, but not so far that it would be a long walk for him and his injured leg. "Go ahead and sit here, you shouldn't be putting too much pressure on your leg since it's injured."
Rather awkwardly, Lily crouched and sat on the sand, her movements a bit bumbling due to her belly. Fritz mentioned her injuries, and she glanced at her arm again. It was still bleeding steadily, though some of the blood had begun to clot, so it would likely stop soon, so long as she didn't rip it open. She moved it gingerly, being careful not to further harm the injury, and also trying to avoid hurting her wrist any further. She was quite sure it was fractured; there was swelling and bruising, and it appeared slightly bent. She tried to bend her fingers, and mostly succeeded. They were rather stiff, and she was unable to bend her thumb. On the bright side, she no longer felt blood dripping down her face, so her facial injury had clotted. She nodded, agreeing to him looking at her injuries later, "I'd appreciate that, thanks."
At the mention of the plane, she glanced over at the crash site; every time she looked at it, she felt her stomach drop. It was a devastating accident. She hoped that more people survived other than her and Fritz. But then, that begged the question: They survived the crash, but would they survive on the island until they were rescued? Lily shook her head, as if doing so would clear away the ill thoughts. "I had some first aid supplies on the plane. If it survived the crash, it's important that we find it. But for now, let me take a look at your injuries. Where does it hurt, besides the arm and leg?"

I've told a million lies but now I tell a single truth There's you in everything I do The more he walked, the more he wished that he had simply suggested they stayed put. So when she decided on a spot away from the wreckage he was more than a little grateful to get off his leg. Still, getting into a sitting position wasn't easy for him. He basically had to let himself fall roughly back in the sand, his leg sprawled out. It seemed that she at least had a little more grace and was able to get down without hurting herself.
The fact that somewhere in that wreckage laid some kind of first aid also appealed to him greatly. It gave him just enough hope to think further than the present despite his injuries dragging him back. "And the... bodies," he said though he hesitated on the words, not wanting to admit the reality of things, "we will need to bury them. Or..." He couldn't say burn them. If they buried them then maybe when they were rescued they would at least have remains to send back to their families. But burying bodies required a lot of time and energy- such that could be essential to surviving. With their injuries and the state that she was in (her pregnancy) he doubted that was really a viable option. Neither was leaving the bodies to rot and spread disease.
As she spoke of where he hurt he resisted the urge to tell her 'everywhere'. He would instead slowly lean back, feeling the pain in his abdomen sharpen and cause him to intake a breath. Slowly he would peel away the blood soaked button up, revealing a deep gash as he did so. He hadn't gotten a chance to really look at it or the piece of metal that stuck out from it. It was all he could do not to panic. It was almost too late for that though. He was thinking about all that needed to be done and everything that could go wrong. The odds weren't really in his favor at this point.
"I don't think it is too deep," he would say, keeping his tone even. "How much... medical training do you have?"

Tags @muttWords 463Notes i don't actually know a lot of medical stuff so i'm just relying on google outfit | kaleidoscope eyes sparkle at the world The bodies. It wasn't something that Lily wanted to think about, but they were an undeniable presence, strewn across the wreckage and beach like a gruesome painting. They would definitely need to find some way to dispose of them, be it burial or burning; leaving them would be too hazardous, and they could very well attract predators. Lily didn't know what the jungle looming over them held, but she couldn't imagine that there would be a lot of creatures that weren't dangerous in some shape or form.
However, the jungle could also be their one chance for survival, until they were rescued. They would need food, fresh water, and shelter, and none of those things could be found on the beach, spare the fish they might be able to get from the ocean if they found a successful way to retrieve them. Of course, their chances of survival would be significantly higher if there were more survivors. While she felt that there had to be more than just her and Fritz, the idea of being alone with only one other companion was worrisome to her, especially when they were both injured.
Lily's train of thought returned to the task at hand; doing what she could to help Fritz's wounds. She watched as he gingerly pulled back his blood soaked shirt to reveal a large gash in his abdomen with a sizable chunk of metal sticking out of it. She exhaled sharply at the sight; it was certainly a significant injury, and without proper medical supplies it could easily get infected. She reached out her hand, as if she was going to touch the injury, but her fingers didn't even graze the metal; she didn't want to move the metal and risk further injury or severing something internal such as a vein or organ until she knew exactly what she was dealing with.
"I'm a student at Emory University with a masters in nursing, and I'm close to becoming a nurse practitioner and earning my DNP. I just started my seventh year of study, and next year I'll be done." Lily said, studying the wound carefully. "When was the last time you get a tetanus shot?" Since the wound was caused by metal, it was at an increased risk of infection, and if he hadn't gotten the shot recently he could contract tetanus. She would probably have to give him stitches, but she didn't know how; she didn't have the supplies for that, so the only thing close to being able to provide similar care were the butterfly bandages. Lily really hoped that the first aid supplies survived the crash, and that she would be able to find it. |

I've told a million lies but now I tell a single truth There's you in everything I do Remaining calm was easy while he had conversation to distract him. The look on her face when she saw his wound however reminded him of the trouble he was in. He gave her a bit of a weak smile, watching as her hand gravitated towards the injury and forced himself to look away. Watching was making him anxious which wasn't going to help his situation at all.
"A nurse, huh?" he said, relief showing on his pale face. The fact that she was still in college only worried him a little. At least she had some working knowledge of the human body. He felt a small glimmer of hope rising in his chest.
"I don't... think it is as bad as it looks," he would say, doing his very best to stay positive. The placebo of not seeing his wound was gone. It was all he could do not to break down. Him and pain weren't very compatible but he knew freaking out would only make it worse. "I can... walk you through the procedure. We will just need to find tools.. some disinfectant." He really didn't want to have to deal with an infection. He had to think on his shot records. He stayed up to date on all of his vaccines. He was a bit of a hypochondriac. "We will just have to wait and see, won't we?" Name: Fritz Lark Character's Mentioned in Post: @lily OOC: Don't worry, neither am I. Feel free to generalize if you have to haha.
