The spot he had found was good enough. It was right on the tree line for the protection from the sun and hidden from the beach, but close enough to see the water. The day was particularly hot and thankfully was even dry so he was able to work on making the shelter. He had found a thick flat stone two palms wide and had been digging into the dirt. Past the trees the earth lost its sandy nature. When he added water to the earth it created a muddy clay that he could start to shape. It took him several hours to start one, but a fire helped to bake the clay into usable bricks. Each brick was thin and flat. he would stack them carefully in a circular pattern tight to each other and build up until he had created a bit of a stove-like creation that helped him create the bricks with a bit more ease.
As the bricks cooked behind him, Logan was using vines and branches to make rope. He took his time, using the sharpened stone to slowly strip down the tree branches into long slivers. He appreciated the time off his feet, resting on his rump in the dirt as he worked the stone over the sheered surface of the branch. Then once he had a few strands he would slowly strip them into thinner and thinner fibers. The process was long, but these would be useful and at this point he was just trying to stay busy. This was something he didn't need the scouts for. His father- nature man as he was- had always taken him out camping. Logan and his sister had been dragged up the side of a mountain many times to watch their father try and teach them things they swore they would never need. But as the cuts and blisters on his hands and arms proved he hadn't listened very well and was very much winging this entire process. That and the stone was dulling from over use... he'd have to sharpen that again soon.
His stomach gurgled a bit, reminding him of his gnawing hunger and causing him to take a bit of a pause. He should have gone fishing today... but this needed to get done. He glanced at the empty can of soda near the fire. Without proper bottles he'd been running to the lagoon to fill it up and sip on it throughout the day. He wanted to save it until he was done with a few yards of rope... but he found himself going over to wet his tongue. He felt like he had earned a little bit of a break. He had to force himself not to chug the entire thing though.... and running to the lagoon to dunk his entire head in the waters.
He, after all, still had work to do.

◄ HAVEN'T YOU HEARD WHAT BECOMES OF CURIOUS MINDS? [HASH]Taya Things were...surprisingly peaceful. She had followed Logan and they started off on the adventure she had always dreamed of having as a carefree child. The horror of their situation was pushed to the side of the framed picture as she and Logan started to focus on survival. She was amazed at what kind of work Logan was doing. She never would have been so resourceful. He was truly a catch, and Taya felt as safe as one could feel on a deserted island, with this man as her friend.
She'd been scavenging the earth while he was building. A few hours of deep jungle searching had actually turned up some food. She had caught a crab that was scurrying along near the lagoon, which she was excited about. It was not huge and it would barely feed one of them, but she loved crab held it by its claws so she could keep it alive until she got back to Logan. On the way back, she found a small bunch of bananas. They weren't totally ripened and they were small, so it was difficult pulled them off the tree. At one point she had stuffed the crab into the pocket of her denim shorts, which had since dried out after their day of swimming. The crab barely fit and she accidently crushed it a bit as she strained with the stubborn fruit. At least it wasn't moving anymore.
Logan was taking a break, it looked like, as she returned to their makeshift home. She admired his work for a few moments before walking around to face him, where she dropped her catches on the ground. Four green bananas and a cracked hardshelled crab. She seemed proud of herself. It wasn't near as remarkable as what he was doing, but at least she could keep him going and not sit around idle. After this, maybe he would let her help make those bricks and they could double their efforts. She had yet to figure out fishing with a spear, but felt trying to learn on her own would just waste precious time.
"Well, hello there, Castaway. I found us some snacks. How's it going?" She took of her sandals to sit down near him, looking bright-eyed and bushy-tailed, almost as if this was a game they were playing. Thinking of it as fun kept her spirits up.

Logan took another small sip before setting the can to the side. He was starting to get a headache from dehydration but he knew he would be able to fix that later. The sight of her shifting through the trees, carrying her prize proudly caused him to forget about the throbbing in his head for a moment. He flashed her a toothy grin, leaning back a bit as she got closer. He listened to her calling him 'cast away' and couldn't help but puff his chest up. "Its going well. See.. jungle survival ass hat guy thing- I should get a badge made or something.." he would say as he got himself to his feet.
He would go now to look at her haul, his brow raising slightly at the crab. They would need to boil that soon or it would rot. The bananas would ripen soon-ish and then they would be perfect to eat. They needed some fruit with all the meat they had been eating. But on the subject of food his stomach rumbled and he thought of the fish he hadn't caught today. "I don't see a house in the cards, but we might be able to construct some kind of shelter... still I think we should try to find some grub."
He would go over to the over, pulling free a few more of the finished bricks and setting them aside before taking some of the remade clay and sticking it into the over to bake. Then he would go to grab the spears, holding one out for her. "Would you like to join me, maybe?" he offered. There was a bit of a challenge in his eyes. Or maybe it was something more along the lines of curiosity.

◄ HAVEN'T YOU HEARD WHAT BECOMES OF CURIOUS MINDS? [HASH]Taya Taya pictured how she could make a pinnable badge for Logan to wear that had all their inside jokes on it. Something to do when they made home eventually.
She watched his ever changing expressions. He seemed content, though he looked hot, and she wondered if he would allow himself some time to take a dip in the lagoons. She was getting thirsty, too. This island was just too damn hot in the middle of the day. She had even sipped at it while she was there an hour ago.
She nodded at his shelter idea. Strange thoughts, really. She was used to having a roof over he head but she didn't believe she'd ever be used to this exposed life they were living now.
As he went through the motions of his building, and finally gathered spears to hand one to her, she caught his eye and smiled back with brows furrowed. She caught the look and she quickly started to make her way towards the shores, flipping her hair in a manner that conveyed confidence.
"Sounds good to me. I'm pretty talented at this guy stuff."
She paused to look back at him, making sure if he was following.

Logan chased after her. Speeding ahead, he would pass her, letting his spear smack her in the rump playfully. Once his feet hit hot soft sand he grinned, turning back to her. "That so?" he challenged, taking a few steps in the sand calmly. If she were any other person the joke would have gone so much further. He would have turned that back on her in a heart beat. But something held him back... respect? It was such a weird concept that he didn't know if he was willing to admit that to himself yet. "Race you to the water!" he would yell out suddenly, turning tail and booking it to the shore.
He wouldn't look back as he flew over the sand. His feet were getting used to the rough jungle floor so the heat of the sand now did little to deter his speed to the water. The reward of cool water brought with it the bite of the saltiness that would no doubt clean his wounds. But he would stumble, only getting a couple steps before he tripped over a wave and went under water. He came back up, refreshed by the sudden cold and grinning like an idiot. Had he won?
He blinked the water from his eyes, panting a bit as he looked to Taya for the answer.

◄ HAVEN'T YOU HEARD WHAT BECOMES OF CURIOUS MINDS? [HASH]Taya It was such a beautiful place here, and the atmosphere made it hard not to enjoy the banter that she and Logan were having. He was following her, actually picking up speed, and he slapped his stick playfully across her behind. It was something a flirting boyfriend would do, she thought, and it made her laugh out loud.
"Hey!!" Laughing, she chased after him as he declared war on her speed. The sand made it hard to run, but she was in shape after her strenuous horse rides in the past. She covered some good ground, smiling the whole way, but unfortunately, she didn't catch up to him in time to become the winner.
The water was refreshing and she almost wished she had the guts to strip down to underwear. There was always the risk of a really bad sunburn, though. And it would certainly distract her male counterpart from the ultimate goal of a nice dinner later tonight. After the days hard work, especially on Logan's end, fresh fish was a necessity. She didn't even consider the idea that neither of them would catch anything. She already found herself trusting Logan as a man who could provide.
Of course, she wasn't satisfied with being like some idle housewife. She readied her spear as soon as they were in the water. She aimed it in Logan's direction, closing an eye to mimic aiming.
"I found me a catch, alright," she declared. She then looked to him with a smile, enjoying the sudden cold of the waist-deep water. It wasn't like a normal beach she had ever experienced. The shores on either side of them broke down the severity of the waves. It was certainly going to make for some easy fishing. Hopefully. Part of her was a little nervous she was going to be awful at it.

Seeing that she had clearly won this foot race he would resist the urge to give a bit of a childish pout. Still, despite the fact that he hated losing he couldn't be happier. The light hearted contest was enough to get him grinning ear to ear. He used the spear to pick himself up out of the waves, watching as she lined him up in his sights. "A catch, eh?" he said, puffing up his chest a bit. He tried to think of something clever to come back with. In all honesty though he was distracted by her. It was a picture of excellence standing before him.The water drenched clothes would do little to deter his imagination. So instead he would clear his throat, using the spear to help him to his feet. It was strange, he had never been nervous in situations like these. It was very unlike him and he didn't like it.
So he would splash at her, making it his come-back for the moment as he regained his nerve. "Well lets see if that carries over to catching something for dinner tonight, yeah?" he would say, wading over to a more rocky point where the water curled over and around allowing the vegetation that the fish gathered near. He awkwardly shimmied his way up the slippery slope of one of the rocks in the water so he was standing above the water with only his calves half-way submerged. Perched a top the water he could barely make out the shapes of the fish below. Nothing too amazing but if he could catch a decent sized one before the speared scattered them it would make for a decent meal.
He lined himself up knowing full and well he was demonstrating his technique for Taya. Poised as he was he would wait for her to find her own footing somewhere as he kept a trained eye on the large fish lazily swimming about the rock. "Imagine that you are pushing the spear instead of throwing it," he would say to her calmly, "but follow through. Trust your body to get the job done. If you hesitate or lose focus there is no way the spear is going to go where you want it to."
Now though was the time to put his money where his mouth was. His arm would jut out, the stick slicing through the waves and burying itself through the body of the fish he'd been eyeing. It struggled instinctively but the battle was over. He would watch his catch but would wait for her throw before going to retrieve it.

◄ HAVEN'T YOU HEARD WHAT BECOMES OF CURIOUS MINDS? [HASH]Taya He said little in response to her rather flirtatious banter, but his eyes did seem to say enough. She liked to think he was enjoying her company. Taya was finding that he could be hard to read, even to the point where it seemed he purposely kept her just a short distance away from him. Metaphorically speaking. And yet, women did have a sixth sense for those kinds of things. Try as he might to hide or ignore it, Taya saw something in his expression in those moments before he splashed at her that made her lose focus, too.
"You dick," she exclaimed as the water pelted her right in the face. Not an angry outburst, but feigned annoyance, as he shook the water off of her face and brushed her hair behind her shoulders. In a few moments she was to forget about her own feelings as Logan pointed things in the direction of the true task. She was nervous, but stubbornly, she pretended she was all confidence. Logan made his way over to a different part of the waterbed and she followed close behind, spear gripped like a rifle.
Atop the rock he looked like he belonged there. His ruggedness was like camouflage out here. He just seemed part of the island now. Fascinated by the whole ordeal, she watched him closely after delicately making her way up the rock. As he explained what to do verbally, her eyes also drank in the sight of his body, contorted to be readied for striking. And strike he did, suddenly flinging the spear into the water. It made barely a splash as it sliced through water and then, to her admiration, right into a fish.
"Oh. Shit," she mumbled, with a quiet laugh afterwards. It was impressive and she felt her confidence waver again. Brief silence, before she realized he was waiting for her to try before he went for the fish. She took a deep breath and mimicked his position.
A fish caught her eye and she followed it. Some actually seemed to be gathering around the speared dead one, as though they were attracted to the carnage and blood. Push, not throw. vSquinting and focused, her wet skin glowed in the sunlight as she suddenly let the spear fly. Fish scattered.
She missed. And she actually felt annoyed about it. "Ya little fuckers, it's on!" she growled, hopping into the water with intent to retrieve both spears. Hopefully Logan was patient. She felt determined, but also like much more practice was needed. The technique felt fluid for her, though. Maybe it wouldn't take long.

Logan had actually been surprised that he caught the fish. For now though he would give credit to the part of himself that liked to show off to onlooking girls and fate for -for once- throwing him a favorable bone. The catch and cool water was enough of an adrenaline boost to wash away the exhaustion of the day. It also gave him the self confidence to stand just a little taller as she joined him on the rock.
The intense focus that showed on Taya's face was almost amusing... but not as much as her reaction to when she missed the fish. He watched as she splashed around, the fish scattering wildly from the safety of the rocks as he went to retrieve the spears. He knew that the fish he had caught would feed them if they didn't catch anything else so he would sit down on the rock and resist the urge to laugh. Any other person in the world and he would be doubled over cackling like an idiot, but he'd be patient with her.
"That was good," he'd comment, crossing his legs underneath him on the warm stone, "next time aim the spear at the fish though, yeah?" He still hadn't completely given up on his teasing but the smile that still lit his face showed they were playful in nature. Honestly though he would be fine sharing the one fish they had just to watch her flail around. She had a cute look about her when she was frustrated. He definitely needed to keep the part of him in check willing to drag that out of her. She was, after all, the only soul on this island seemingly willing to put up with his bullshit. No need to scare her off.
"Oh and take your time. No need to rush anything."

◄ HAVEN'T YOU HEARD WHAT BECOMES OF CURIOUS MINDS? [HASH]Taya They'd only just begun, but Taya wasn't used to lacking in some kind of outdoor skill. She loved the outdoors. Mountains and hills, explored on foot or the back of a horse. Cold nights spent under the stars. Decorating the boys' tent with toilet paper while they snored. This wild life with Logan, though, was really throwing her through a loop. At least she felt she was in a much better place, mentally speaking, than the day of the crash. Missing that fish brought the fire back inside of her. Her spirits soared with positive energy as she picked up Logan's spear and made joking gestures like she was going to tear her teeth right into it. Then she laughed in her usual manner, tossing her head back to the sky and diving a hand into her hair.
As she ran her fingers through it, Logan teased her and it was all in good fun. She could count on him to make light of their troubles. Even when he'd had sore feet, it took her ages to notice because he just didn't complain. And Taya felt that was what saved her from herself.
"Damn, I get so distracted by shiny things," she said with an exaggerated shrug in response to his tease. He had a light in his eyes that was refreshing. She still didn't know Logan as well as she wanted to, so she was relieved to know he didn't seem at all annoyed or impatient. Of course, if he had been, she'd certainly give him a stern reminder of her newness. Something the old Taya would do. Nodding at his mention of taking their time, she was still smiling, but her thoughts seemed to wander momentarily.
"Can I ask you something? What were you like before the crash? I mean, I guess- what did you do?"
The questions came out of her mouth rather spontaneously, as she started wading back towards their rocky perch. She climbed back up to sit by his side again, still holding his spear with the dead fish attached. She was watching his expression curiously as she handed him the weapon. She wanted to know Logan, not just as an acquaintance.p, and she finally felt comfortable enough to chitchat.

Shiny things? Ah, yes. "I've noticed," he teased, cocking his head to the side slightly at her display. Her playing her fingers through her hair as she seemed to wait for his reaction. When there was none he would watch as she readied herself into position. He'd wait silently as she did so. It would take him off guard when she brought his past up in the conversation. Visibly taken aback it would take a moment for him to reel in his features, his head turning to examine the shore as he did so. He had to remind himself not to get mad over something that normally wouldn't be a source of anger. So he would ease out a breath, his expression mixing as he thought of exactly how much of his guts he was willing to spill to this person he had come to consider his friend.
"I wasn't anything special," he said, realizing that sounded just a tad more angsty than he meant. A chuckle escaped him as he ran his palm down his face. It was silly that he was this... nervous. Good god he was nervous. How could he be nervous to tell her who he really was? So he tried again. "I did mostly odd jobs. If anyone needed an extra set of hands I would usually show up to help out. Most recently I found myself on a shrimp boat with a couple chuckle-heads. I..." He'd trail off. Okay, now he was rambling.
A hefty exhale left him as he laid back against the rock, hiding his face. Not many people knew even that much about him. A handful had a clue as to the nature of how he lived his life. Bar hopping on the night ashore and using his cash to get a hotel with whatever girl he picked up that night and slipping out before the sun had a chance to rise. That was something he was afraid to tell her. Him: afraid of what someone else thought of him. It was laughable.
"I was a bum," he said, tossing his shoulders as he stayed laying, not willing to look her in the eyes. He felt a bit emotional and he didn't like that. He needed the light-hearted mood to come back. The reason it felt like it was gone was because he was moping over something that no longer effected him. He forced a smile back on his lips then, waiting until he felt like it would look genuine before looking back to her.
"You caught anything yet? Damn, woman, can't you see I'm withering away to nothing here..?" he'd rub his bare belly, giving a bit of pout to play along with his teasings.

◄ HAVEN'T YOU HEARD WHAT BECOMES OF CURIOUS MINDS? [HASH]Taya He looked completely awkward about the question, and it was obvious on his face that he didn't like it. Or, at least, he was very surprised by how sudden it was. They hadn't had deep conversations yet so he couldn't be blamed. Taya just had a thirst for adventure and wasn't afraid to look for it. Everything she did know about Logan seemed to feed that desire she had. So, she was extremely pleased that he started to talk. A little bit at a time, at first. There was a quiet smile on her face as she turned back to the water and readied her spear. She focused on the fish while she listened, hoping to ease some of that obvious embarrassment he was feeling.
It was honestly cute, and Taya was charmed at how he just could not keep still while he spoke like he regretted every word. Eventually he was turned on his side, and Taya looked away from the water and, brows furrowed, she wondered if he was really upset now. He'd kind of cut himself short as if he was saying too much. But Taya was disappointed that he stopped talking. Just as she was about to lay a hand on his side out of concern, he spoke up again.
A bum? She wondered immediately if he meant the serious kind of bum, or just an expression to describe his personality. Either one would be surprising to her. He was proving over and over how hard working he was. A lazy person did not just build a shelter for two and craft fishing spears, when there was a whole cave of people wiling to feed each other. But, he didn't have the appearance of a homeless person. Maybe she had fallen for stereotypes.
She seemed like she was going to press further on the subject, but suddenly he changed the subject, getting back into his normal mood. She smiled again and slapped a hand across his knee.
"Up yours!" she snorted, turning back to the ocean in front of her. She waited, posed to strike, for a number of seconds before tossing the wood into the water. It floated up to the surface; she'd missed again. "Well, this is lame. I hate when I'm not instantly awesome at something. I'm always awesome!"
She lifted a hand to give the great big ocean a middle finger.
Secretly, her heart was thumping with thoughts of Logan and everything he'd just told her. He sounded so full of background. One day, she'd get all of it out of him.

More than anything else Logan was grateful that she didn't comment on his story. She just let it go. Still, now he was stuck on the idea of what she could have been before the shit hit the fan. He feel her slap his knee, a bout of laughter erupting from him as he sat himself up. "What about you?" Now he was staring at her back but was still caught with a few silent chuckles. He found himself tempted to touch her. Nothing serious or anything of the sort. He had the urge though to touch the waterlogged tangles that were just within arms reach. It was an oddly sentimental feeling and he pushed it back into the dark recess of his mind.
Waiting until she had thrown (and missed) once more he would drop down into the water. As she flipped off the ocean he would slap the water, causing a large chilling splash to go in her direction. "Looks like we are going to starve now," he said jokingly, wading through the water to retrieve the spear.
Once in his grasp he would go back to her. "Well lets see if we can make you awesome with this too, yeah?" he'd start, moving into position behind her. This was probably the most forward he had been with her and it was for instructional purposes. He placed the spear in her hand, slipping against her body and helping her to adjust into a better position for spearing the fish. "Don't move," he'd say in her ear carefully, "the shadows you cast will scare the fish. You have to wait until they seem completely oblivious to what is about to happen." His arm very slowly would move to adjust her elbow into a better angle, his ankle hooking around hers to push them ever so slightly outwards. Once he felt like she was in position he would stay still against her, his hand hovering under her arm in case she were to drop her stance on accident. "Now take your aim.. and follow through"

◄ HAVEN'T YOU HEARD WHAT BECOMES OF CURIOUS MINDS? [HASH]Taya He asked her about herself, and she pondered over that question while she was poised for her spear strike. What was there to say about herself? She never had much of a story, like he did. She just...played. Life was a game, and she was always having a good time...mostly. There was that period of time when her mother died.
"I love horses more than anything else. I spent most of my days riding. I was on my way to a serious horse racing competition in Santiago." Her eyes flashed with just a moment's pain with the memories coming back to the front. It's a good thing horses weren't on passenger planes. It would have been even more devastating to know her prized horse had died in the crash, too. He was a buckskin stallion with a temper, but a damn good ride. She missed his soft nose kisses.
Logan had retrieved the spears by now and was making his way back up the rock. He joked again about starving and as funny as it was, she felt bad for just a moment. Thank goodness Logan was here, and skilled at surviving, because starvation was a very real idea to her now. That sobering thought made her quiet until he was back by her side again.
Her eyes followed him, until he moved behind her. Confused for just a second, she lost sight of what he was doing and was going to turn, when she felt his body pressing up against hers. Logan put the spear in her hand and she squeezed it tight, suddenly very distracted by what was happening. The feel of his skin against hers gave her shivers, but nothing quite like the sound of his voice tickling in her ear. She felt a pleasant throb inside of her that she tried to ignore. It was a good thing girls didn't have obvious signs of arousal like men did. It was almost embarrassing.
Focus on what he is trying to teach, she chastised herself in her mind. She glanced at his arm, hovering near her own, but forced her eyes back to the water. The fish swam by leisurely, and she watched with intensity. This position felt strange at first, but, she could feel the difference now. Her muscles were perfectly bunched in a manner to help with the final motion.
Take your aim. She narrowed her eyes and picked her target, waiting to see if it would swim within her desired location of impact. Follow through.
Taya held her breath before she tossed the spear, and it flew into the water much more gracefully then before. At the same time, she threw it so enthusiastically that she felt herself losing some balance. She teetered on her heels, but her green gaze caught sight of the spear pinned to the ocean floor. The fish was flailing around underneath it. She speared it! "Yes!" she exclaimed, right before she fell backwards against her teacher. She was laughing hysterically, feeling better than ever in that moment.

A horse racing competition? Well didn't that just blow his mental image out of the water? For some reason he had pictured her growing up similar to him; in a small suburbs with a sibling or two... probably brothers. Living in a city with a nice job... but this made bit more sense to him. It also was a bit daunting to be honest. Or at least he felt as if his past couldn't really compare. His thoughts faded though as he noticed the sober look she held at his joke. There wasn't anything he could do about it now though. It was probably best to just focus on the fishing now. Then she wouldn't have to stress about eating, would she?
Logan could feel her shiver at his touch, he could hear her breath catch. The signals were there despite the innocence of the lesson he was trying to give. It took every ounce of restraint in him to keep him from doing something silly and ruin this lesson. Unlike her though he did have things that would give himself away. If he wasn't careful he would end up making a fool of himself. Thankfully though he wasn't some silly teenager and could control himself. The only thing he couldn't control was the idiot grin on his face. Something he seemed to always carry on his person when he was around her. A genuinely happy, relaxed smile that matched how he really felt and that was the very reason he had stayed around her so long.
When she took her aim he found himself holding his breath. At the throw he found his brow arching as he peered over her shoulder curiously. He didn't get time to really see though for he found himself trying to keep her from falling into the water. He hooked an arm around her middle, easing her back as she cried out happily. She'd caught one then?
When she leaned back against him he would still, his smile fading for just a brief second as he looked down at her in his arm. He felt an out of place beat hammer in his chest as he watched her giggling and laughing from excitement. It was contagious. Once again the smile lit up his face but he wouldn't move away from her. "You learn faster than I did," he'd say as he glanced at her prize. "You sure you weren't hustling me?" He would move away from her now, going to pluck the spear from the ocean floor with the prize still attached before presenting it to her. Then he would go collect his satchel with his own fish securely in it. "I think its about time we head back and clean these guys... what do you think?" He was pretty sure the next set of bricks would be done and he would have to set the pit up proper for cooking while they gutted and cleaned these guys.
