Lori felt like this place was a prison. She sat at the mouth of the cave, looking outwards in hopes that the rain would just stop. She wasn't sure how long it had been now, and if it had been days she really wouldn't know due to the sun being thoroughly covered by rain. Who knew how long they had been here. To Lori, who still hadn't indulged in her last bottle of gin or her last cigarette was at wits end. She ran her fingers through her hair, pulling at the strands anxiously as she tapped her bare foot. She found that the floor of the cave here was rather smooth, so most the time she didn't have to wear the tennis shoes that she had snatched from the body in the plane.
Her thoughts were running and after a while she reached down and picked up a sharp rock from just outside the lip of the cave and rubbed it on her shirt until it was dried. After a little while she began to scratch at the walls. The stone against the cave made a very faint white/gray line, but after a few strokes, the lines were darkening and could be seen from the faint glow of the fire. She wasn't sure what she would be drawing. She was never a great artist, but it was something to get her energy out. Her drawings were very shaky, always starting out little hatch marks that would evolve into something after hundreds of little tick marks had been added together.
So, at first, the furious scratching looked as if she were going mad. She scratched at the walls, the tick marks looking like a mad man's scribbles as her arms reached high above her. Her eyes were unfocused as she did this, the scratching echoing with the rain that poured outside. The storm was still raging on, and a few flashes of what looked like lightning would illuminate the sky during this dark night.

Emotions. Not the best thing to have in a situation like this, where one didn't even know if they would survive or not. What had been a planned vacation turned into a nightmare. It wasn't like plane crashes were unheard of. But, no one expected it to happen to them. It was always someone else, but not them. That was pretty much the mindset Aideen O'Braonain had about it, until it happened. Oh, it would never happen to her. Well, it had. She Aideen O'Braonain had been in a plane crash. The second big question of the day was, why in the hell was she not dead? Usually falling from the sky at that kind of height was bound to kill someone. She had prepared for death, had even welcomed it with welcome arms. But, she had to be one of the unlucky ones. Okay that was a negative thought, she supposed she should be happy that she had survived. Death would of been much simpler than living like this. Shouldn't rescue planes already be out and about? How long did it take to find a damn island? Were they even going to be rescued? She wanted to curl into a ball and cry herself to sleep, but she figured that would make her appear to be a wuss or something. Aideen fretted over what the others would think. They were going through the same exact thing, and most of them seemed to be not be curling into a ball and crying. She just wanted to fit in, no matter how messed up the situation was. Okay, the situation was very messed up. She was crazy to pan it off as nothing. But, it was the only way she was going to manage to cope with it. Her heart started to beat faster, she could hear the thumping of it get louder. She was feeling very nervous, feeling like she was being very useless at the moment. But, it certainly didn't help that it was raining outside. She had been afraid of storms since being a little girl, and had never quite outgrew it, even though it had tended to rain a lot in Ireland. The sound of lightning was enough to have Aideen shaking in her own skin. She had heard stories about people being struck by lightning, and she didn't want to be one of those victims. And, it seemed even a plane crash wasn't enough to kill her. Sitting down on the hard floor of a cave wasn't exactly her cup of tea, but when did one in this kind of situation have a choice? Besides, it wasn't like she had a lot of luxaries before this. She closed her eyes for half a second, a faint smell of fire and nature combined, would hopefully help her get some sleep. But, sleep was very far away. Aideen was far too restless, and had been for a long while now. The scratching sound certainly didn't help. Needless to say, she was feeling very irritated. She was almost positive that it was night time, and was it not custom to let others sleep? Some people were just downright rude, but then again, she wasn't able to sleep anyways. She should of picked a different cave, one that was a bit more quiet. She forced herself up onto her feet, deciding she'd go check out where the noise was coming from. At the mouth of the cave stood a woman, Aideen didn't know her name, she had not bothered to learn anyone's name really. She was good at fading into the background, only talking when she needed to. "Uh, Hey." She knew that her accent came on strong, especially since English was only her second language. "Could you maybe be a little quieter?" She flinched, hoping she hadn't sounded rude or anything. She just really wanted some peace and quiet. sammikay |

Her mad scratching had eventually started to take shape, and slowly she realized that her makeshift drawing had formed into a sleek tiger, the stripes beginning to develop with each stroke. She had the face and outline of the body's length when she had been interrupted. Least to say, she had begun to sink into her meditated state, completely unaware of any person coming her way. So, when the little blonde had spoken, Lori jumped, her rock falling out of her hand and skipping across the cave floor.
"Oh," she answered, looking down at her hands, back at the wall, and then to her. "Yeah, sorry. I couldn't sleep," she offered, knowing what a bitch she was for keeping others awake. She hadn't even attempted to be rude, and here she was doing it again. Her heart still beat fast in her chest from being startled, and with a soft sigh she looked at her drawing and then back out towards the mouth of the cave where the rain still poured down fast.
"Are you from Scotland or something?" she asked, completely oblivious to the accents of the world. She had been in New York all her life, so she had met many tourists, especially in her bartending days, but had never really cared to listen to much into where they were from. And, with her not being a fan of movies she had never really gotten to hear the several different accents portrayed in films. So, maybe it was culturally insensitive to just blurt out where someone was from, but Lori wasn't a very sensitive person in the first place.
She was freezing, but she was glad that she had acquired a jack from someone who had two of them. She pulled it closer to her body, wishing that she had pants instead of the shorts that she wore now. Who thought that of all places, Lori would freeze her ass off on a tropical island. But, then again, who would have thought that she would have been here anyways? She had just been the flight attendant that would fly in the plane and then turn around on another flight back to the states. She had never meant to go on vacation, had never really meant to step off the plane that had crashed them to this fucking island.

Moving to America had been a culture shock for Aideen, used to the green rolling hills of Cork, Munster. What was even more of a culture shock was surving a plane crash and being stranded on an island. She would much rather be in the states than in this situation. She hated to admit it, but she had rather liked how easy things like transportation made life, and premade food. Premade food wasn't going to happen on an island. It was either eat what was offered or starve to death here. She had enjoyed having a phone, and while she still had her phone, it wasn't much use. There was no service, there wasn't anything really but beautiful scenery. She had forgotten to enjoy nature with all the technology that had been created. But, she definitely did not regret falling in love with technology now. This place most definitely sucked, all kinds of creepy creatures existed out there and no telling what kind of weather. She wanted the comfort of a nice bed and a bathroom would be nice. That made her sound needy, but now she could only see how she had taken those things for granted. The female making all the noise wasn't all that bad looking, well beautiful if Aideen were to be honest. She wished that she could have that simple beauty. Sometimes when she got spurges of confidence she felt pretty, complete even. She felt pretty plain compared to this female though, long dark brown hair and tattoos. She also thought that there had to be some asian blood of some kind. But, that was judging by appearance. Aideen was the classic blonde with blue eyes. The only nice thing she had to say about her appearance was her eyes. An intensifying light blue in color and big eyes that made her features look very expressive. Her body stature made her seem confident, but she was truly dying inside. She wasn't confident. At all. She'd rather die than talk out loud in front of a large group. Even talking to a solo female was enough to have Aideen on edge. It made her want to throw up, this was the exact reason why she kept to herself. She felt nervous. She was most definitely scared of the outcome. Anything the other female said would only make Aideen panic more. There was no win-win situation here. None at all. She flinched at the sound of the rock hitting the floor, but quickly regained her senses. "Oh," Aideen smiled weakly, her bottom lip trembling, feeling very nervous. "Yeah, sorry. I couldn't sleep," She could sympathize with the poor woman, but lack of sleep was pretty much the usual for Aideen. She had never really gone to see a doctor about it. But, she knew her constant jitters and nervousness towards life was not normal. She knew not being able to sleep because her brain wouldn't shut off was not normal. But, after awhile one just began to accept it. She wouldn't know what good sleep was. "One of those nights, aye?" She failed to mention that it wasn't just the scratching sound that was keeping her up. She had spoken though with confidence, and for her, it felt very much like an accomplishment. "Probably won't sleep anyways, never been a fan of storms." The accent was thick, and no matter how hard she tried to down play it, she still wouldn't fit in. She had lived in America for four years. Still showed no signs of disappearing. Perhaps she would always have the accent? The accent that made her stand out in America. "Are you from Scotland or something?" It was slightly rude how the female asked, but Aideen didn't really care. A small smile appeared on her lips as she formed an answer to the question. "No. Ireland... Cork, Munster to be more precise." She chuckled, finding it bizarre the woman didn't recognize the accent. It was so clearly irish, but who was she to judge? "The name's Aideen O'Braonain, Yours?" She decided it would be best if she tried to be polite at least. sammikay |

Lori was fairly transfixed by the girl's accent, and wondered why she hadn't heard her around here before. In the caves everyone seemed to constantly be talking, telling stories, and one time she heard someone singing. Lori chucked it up to the girl was probably shy. She offered her a tiny smily in exchange for asking if it was one of those nights. She shrugged in return, putting her hands deep into the pockets of her jacket, wishing to smoke her last cigarette but knowing she needed to wait. It had only been two nights since she and Zach had indulged in 3 of her last 5, and only one night ago that she had walked in the depths of the cave and lit a cigarette there. She only had the one left, and she had a distinct feeling she should save it.
Lori listened to her quietly, looking over at the mouth of the cave each time a lightning bolt shot across the sky. She turned her head back when asked her name. "Lori Cox," she said rather unceremoniously, not bothering to hold her hand out to shake. They were stuck on an island together, not in a job interview. She examined the girl, noticing her beautiful hair and long body. Stuck at 5'4" had you appreciating long legs of anyone taller than you, and Lori couldn't help but notice the Irish woman was the epitome of beautiful. In the light she couldn't see much of her face, but she was sure that was gorgeous too. Curiously, she wondered if she worked out.
Lori chuckled to herself, surprised with that thought. Exercise had always been a huge part of her life back before the crash. She had a morning run every day, followed by a protein shake and an evening run. She loved to work out, and found it surprising that she was thinking about working out in this moment. She was slowly returning to her normal self, even when stuck in this shitty situation. "Sorry," Lori answered finally after chuckling outwardly. "I was just about ready to ask if you worked out," she explained, running a hand into her hair, but unable to get her fingers all the way through it.

She was already internally yelling at herself for starting a conversation, that just gave room for disaster. And, disaster really wasn't something that Aideen was willing to shake up. Not for the fear of messing things up, of making the other female hate her. That was what Aideen desired the most, to not be hated. Okay, it was granted that she didn't know a lot about what actual hate was.. But, the feeling of being judged would never go away. Everyone was watching her, or at least it felt that way. It was for the best that she remained quiet and kept to herself. But, for the first time in a long time, Aideen craved attention. She hated herself for it. She didn't want others to think of her as an attention whore, because that just wasn't her. She wanted others to think of her as kind. She tried so very hard to be a good girl. She was ashamed of herself when she was tempted to do something bad. Simply said, Aideen was very self conscious of almost anything that she did. There was no hope really of her ever becoming confident enough to do anything huge. She liked following the crowd, blending in was what she wanted most. Talking to someone was very stupid, she was practically broadcasting around the room that she had an accent. And, she was completely freaking out over something simple like a conversation. There was bigger things to worry about, like getting off this damn island. And, Aideen really wanted to be off it. There was far too many spiders and insects that had her almost paralyzed with fear. She really hated bugs, especially spiders. She imagined that now she had far worse problems than bugs. One of them being that she needed to get food into her stomach. The food available here wasn't anything compared to store bought food, but how could she complain? She had to remain alive until help came, that was pretty much the motto here. She figured that was everyone's motto at this point. It was like going through time and slipping back into the dark ages. She didn't know how they had survived something like that, having no technology, no electricity. She was glad that she had decided to wear a jacket as a clothing choice the day of the crash. She wasn't sure what day it was anymore, or how long they had been here. After all, what was the point in counting anyways? "Lori Cox," She smiled in response, acknowledging that she had heard her. A simple name, a name that Aideen wished she could have. Well, in Ireland her name wasn't too uncommon. But, in America names like Samantha and Anna were far more common than Aideen. "Nice to meet you," another small appearing on her lips. An awkward moment seemed to have passed, and Aideen was startled by the sudden laughter coming from the other woman. Aideen smiled, but inwardly was starting to feel very nervous. Had she done something wrong? She winced inwardly at the thought. "Sorry," She frowned, wondering what there was to be sorry about? "I was just about ready to ask if you worked out," Work out? Most definitely not. Well, she did the amount of exercise required of her, to keep her body figure that was. "Me? Work out? As much as one has to keep their figure, I suppose." A small nervous laugh escaped her lips, biting her lip in the process. Okay, end this conversation and disappear. She was making a fool out of herself. "Do you work out?" Okay then, let's not end the conversation. Oh, this was just going to go quite disastrous. Just smile and pretend like everything was okay. She didn't even do that. "Working out can be a good stress reliever." Really? Where the hell did that come from? She really wanted the girl to hate her apparently, the girl that talked far too much, said more than she needed to. sammikay |

Lori began laughing, and really couldn't stop herself. The fact that the two of them were sitting here, discussing working out was just extremely comical to her, seeing as they were stuck on a deserted island after a plane crash. She bent over, placing her hands on her knees as she finally relaxed after an eternity of laughing. First she had been a ball of tears and now she was laughing madly. She hoped that this meant she was on her way to acceptance of their situation.
As if on cue, Lori noticed how uncomfortable Aideen was with Lori. She had been used to that with other girls. Lori knew she was pretty, and then add in her tattoos and she could be very intimidating. "I'm not laughing at you," she explained quickly, zipping up her jacket and noticing now that the rain outside had begun to slow down. Maybe they would be at the end of this terrible storm and she could go back out and look for food. She was finally ready to start eating and start surviving. She had her time with Zach, and that had sparked the start of her desire to survive. She didn't want to think about what that meant for her though.
"It's just, I haven't really had time to get used to this yet," she explained, running both of her hands through her long hair, attempting to tame the mess in a quick braid as she yawned. She desperately wanted to sleep, but she just wasn't very comfortable on the rock floor that everyone was snoring on. She really wanted the comfort of the sand again. She snapped her hair tie onto her hair and nodded. "Yeah, I used to work out at least once a day," she said, feeling the muscles in her calves tighten with the reminder of how long she hadn't went on a run. She wasn't sure she could even run a mile in the condition she was in right now.

Aideen could easily admit that she was bitter in nature at the moment, but who wouldn't be? She had survived a plane crash, ended up in the middle of no where, and was starting to wonder if they had hope. What hope could there possibly be? Okay, she was being negative. But, she had no reason to be positive. What if they never got rescued? She would be stuck here on the island forever. Only god knows how insufferable that would be, to go that long without technology. She wasn't a geek or anything, but she needed her technology. Her cell phone didn't work, it had died a very long time ago, or at least she thought so. Aideen had lost track of time a long time ago. For all she knew they had been here for a whole two weeks. She didn't very well care how much time had passed, it wouldn't change things now would it? Life was not going as planned, it never went as planned, but ending up on a deserted island. Aideen couldn't find how that was fair, how she deserved to end up here? It just didn't seem right.
Aideen tried her best not to care about appearances, but much as she tried, things still bothered her. She couldn't have the desired long straight hair or the mocha colored eyes. She had been cursed with long curly hair and blue eyes, and despite people telling her that she was beautiful she still had a hard time believing it. But, beauty was beauty. It didn't matter any more if she was beautiful or not. At least not right now during this moment in time. She felt scared about the future, not able to imagine being stuck her forever. As a child she had might of liked the fairytale of living off the land, but let's be honest here, she wasn't a nature girl. And, a deserted island like this would have a lot of spiders, and she imagined they weren't the little kind. She thanked the gods for the creation of the fire, hoping it scared most of the unwanted creatures away. This was another reason why she couldn't sleep, the fear of waking up to a huge spider crawling on her or something. In her point of view, it was probably one of the worst things imaginable. But, that was just being dramatic.
She didn't understand what the woman was having such a laughing fit, nothing about the situation was funny. No, it was more along the lines of being downright scary. There was a very good chance that rescue would never come. And, then what? Turn into a magical village that lived upon the land. There would never be any technology. It sounded like a rather boring life, especially since she was all alone. Lori could also be laughing at her, and that gave Aideen a very sick feeling in her stomach. She wanted to curl into a ball and cry at the thought, hoping that maybe just maybe it was all in her head and it wasn't her at all. "I'm not laughing at you," She took a deep breath of air at those words, nothing could describe how relieved she was with them. She hated being laughed at, it reminded her of her problems in High School. Needless to say, teenage girls could be very mean. Already it seemed that cliques were building on this island while they awaited help. Aideen couldn't help but wonder what her mother was thinking. She cursed at herself inwardly, thinking about such things only made her hurt more.
"It's just, I haven't really had time to get used to this yet," Aideen really didn't think anyone had gotten used to it, how could they? All of them were stuck with the illusion that help would come, including her. "I don't think anyone has, if I can be honest." She paused for a second before continuing. "Do you think help will come?" It was a fair enough question, it sure seemed to haunt her these days. It had been awhile now, surely help would of come by now. But, Aideen really didn't know how rescue teams worked. But, it seemed that they would of been found by now. But, they were still here on this dreaded island. "In my opinion, the more time goes by the more unlikeliness of us ever being found." Aideen only wished that it wasn't true, but she had seen stories about it before. Given, all of them were fiction. But, they had to have some truth to them, right? She liked to think so, but it could only be her imagination at work. "I don't imagine this will be anything like the blue lagoon. Movies are almost always never completely accurate, ya know. I couldn't really see myself living that lifestyle... I need my technology... And, if we don't get rescued then I don't know what I will do."
Her talking was hurting anything, or at least that was what she told herself. She had things she needed to get off her chest. And, Lori would certainly understand since they were in the situation together. The group had to stick together, it was the only way that they would survive. "Yeah, I used to work out at least once a day," She smiled, or at least forced herself to smile. There wasn't anything to smile about really. Life was just simply depressing, especially since they were in the middle of no where. "Álainn!" She gave the woman a taste of her native tongue, a smile appearing on her features. "That means beautiful in Irish." |

Lori had finally settled down, glad that the moment of inappropriateness was finished. She really just needed to get a move on with her life now. She had to get used to this island gig, because if help were not to come, she needed to live. As miserable as it would be on this island, she would much rather live than die. Lori was not a religious person in the slightest, giving her a sense of severe uncertainty when it came to what was after death.
Lori hadn't given much thought to the question before. People all around the island had been contemplating whether or not help would ever come. Zach was in the boat that it never would, while there were others who sincerely felt that the help boat was on its way. She had been present for both arguments, but never did she give it a thought of what she figured would happen. No one had really even asked her before this moment. Lori turned her eyes on the girl, watching her for a very long moment before dropping her gaze back down to her fingers where she fiddled with her jacket.
In this moment, the dark cave full of sleeping people, Lori had to question what had and would become of them. They all couldn't survive out here. Food was a limited resource; she had heard people talking about a lagoon, but she had yet to go there, and she knew that people were dying every once in a while. A group had begun burying the corpses from the plane and even from the few who hadn't survived the couple of weeks the had been stranded for. Would help come?
"I don't know," she answered plainly, turning to look back at the beautiful Irishwoman. She hated to admit that she didn't know. Lori had always hung tightly to her knowledge, or at least her opinion, but here, she didn't have either. "I think you're right to assume that the longer it is, the less likely it will be," she said gently, looking back out into the storm that was still pouring down. How long did people look for missing children before giving up? Like, a year total?
Lori wanted to pass out with the idea of being stuck on an island for a year. She could hardly imagine making it through these next couple of days, let alone a whole year's time. Nothing would ever be the same after that. Shit, nothing was the same now after just a week and a half. Technology was not on the forefront of her mind, but she could sympathize with the need for something. She felt her stomach twist and turn with the desire of alcohol and cigarettes, but she clenched her teeth and looked back up at Aideen.
She gave a half-assed smile at her Irish, glad that she was sharing a small piece with Lori. She had a sense of desire to travel, especially being a flight attendant. Maybe one day, if this entire thing ended up working out, she could visit Ireland. She had never really given it any thought before to head there, but after living this, Lori had a feeling she would live life to the fullest.
