If You're Walking Through Hell and High Water
#550 @raion Callow was perched atop a good sized boulder, it had a nook in it that just seemed to fit her body perfectly. It also provided her a good view of the ocean and the sun as it came up from behind the horizon. A pod of dolphins broke through the otherwise calm water, gliding back into the ocean like true professionals. It was beautiful; she wanted to be doing something so much more than just watching them. Anything. Water quality testing, pod management and record keeping, identifying the types of seaweed that grew deeper than anyone cared to wade. Anything to be out in the sea; but she feared, as weak as she was, that she might not have the strength required to swim back to shore… or the motivation. She shrugged off the thought quickly with an invisible shudder.
Cal had spent the night in the jungle, just out of sight from the beach. She figured that would be her best bet for not missing Raion. It had been a rough night; new sounds, smells, she had heard a voice or two in the distance a few times… it all just had her a little on edge. A wee bit jumpy, she realized, as the call of a bird caused her to startle and turn her head back towards the jungle.
She hadn't been here long, perhaps 15 minutes? It was unreal how dependent on a clock her sense of time was. She allowed one leg to stretch out, feeling the muscle in her leg pull a little more uncomfortably than she would have predicted. The moments passed by slowly as she tried to think of way to occupy her mind.
Raion was coming. He wouldn't miss their first morning. 'Morning' after all was a term pretty open to interpretation. She was just antsy. Calm it on down Cal. He said he would be here. It's not like you've been waiting for forever. And even if he doesn't come what else could you possibly have to do today? Face it. You have nothing but time. She needed to do something to work out this nervous energy; she stood on top of her rock and stretched. A short jump and she landed on her feet in the almost cool sand.
She made her way over to the shore, the water was almost too cold against her bare feet. Hunger pains were a very real thing at this point in time, and she tried her hardest to ignore them, but she found that her hand had made a habit of covering her tummy - as though that would help sooth the ache. She took a few steps back and sat herself just out of the waves reach, her behind settling in damp sand.
Before she could actually make sense of what she was doing her hands moved and shoveled sand towards her. She began forming a mound. Castle Cal she thought, as her hands continued to sculpt. A tune started in the back of her throat and Cal mumbled a song out to herself And I'd walk through hell and high water. Wash away with the tide. I can lose a damn war all by myself, if you were on the other side.
Please Don't do it Aone

The night went about as slowly as he expected it to. The cave was cold and damp like usual, and the people slowly came back from their tasks to settle down for sleep. By now, the group seemed to be just a bit more closely knit. More and more people interacted with each other. Some of the bleakness had faded from their faces. Still, the sadness was always hanging above them. People still cried now and again over lost loved ones. Raion himself spent all night thinking about home. His sister, especially. He missed that girl. She was a teenager, eighteen recently. She was troubled and about as disturbed by their past as Raion was. She would be missing him right now. If only he could find a way to reach her... That morning, Raion had casually collected his gathered foods; small pieces of cold but cooked fish and two bananas. Nobody bothered him, and Zach was way too distracted to care what he did. His brother had just been found, and the guy was out of it lately. Something in him seemed to have changed and it was a little worrisome. He hadn't even had the chance to ask him about Cal. He walked along, keeping just inside the tree lines so he was less likely to run into anybody. Cal was pretty clear about wanting to see only him, so he wanted to respect that. It was so frustrating, though. Maybe if she saw the face of that little girl in the group, she'd soften up a bit. The girl was probably four or five and had been adopted by the group as a whole, but she loved Raion. Always following him around the cave. It made the pain of missing his little sister much sharper, and yet, it helped, too. It kept him smiling. Finally, he made it to the eastern side of the island, and he could see Cal now, close to the shores, and on her hands and knees looking as though she was building a sand castle. The sight brought a smile to his face and he dodged the rocks here and there as he made his way to her. He still wore his raggedy clothes, the red shirt with the dark jeans, but he had taken a dip in the ocean last night to get freshened up. His hair was slicked back in the front, the way he liked it to be. He could hear now that she was singing a song to herself. He didn't recognize the tune, but he hung back just a moment to listen and to be polite. Didn't want to embarrass her, though he somehow doubted she was the self-conscious type like that. He held the food in his arms in a cradling-like position. None of it was wrapped up, of course, and the grease of the fish was all over his skin now. "Breakfast is served," he greeted quietly, after she finished a verse of her song. "Fish and fruit a la carte."The morning sun was bright and hot, but that ocean breeze couldn't be beat. He never had been a huge fan of the beach, but right here and now, it was truly a nice morning.

If You're Walking Through Hell and High Water
#550 @raion Cal was just putting the finishing touches on the first level to her castle when she heard the soft vocals of Raion. Her head swiveled to find him - her body was tense; almost in anticipation for there being another person with him. After some thought last night Cal had determined that she was putting to much trust into this strangers hands. She couldn't actually take anything he said seriously. Or to heart. But then she saw the food...
It was like a caged, deprived animal lived inside of her gut and it was roaring. She could feel her insides arrange as her mind registered the protein. He had come through. Big time. Cal made a mental note to figure out a way to repay him. She new the opportunity would present itself, she might just have to be patient.
Oh. My. Godness.
Out of all the words in the English language, those were the ones she was able to conjure up? She cleared her throat I mean, that looks awesome Raion! She stood to meet him, shaking and rubbing off the sand that stuck to her exposed skin. He looked good! Or well, better than he had last night. Perhaps a bit more exhausted. She noted that there was less dirt in his hair and assumed that he had made a pit stop at the lagoon after their interaction yesterday - she added a dip in the clean water to her own list of things to do today.
Cal had never been a huge fan of fish, but in this moment she couldn't think of a single thing that would taste as good as that bit of fish that Raion was offering her. It was all she could do to not snatch the food right from him and gobble it down. I'm not really sure how to thank you. You sure there isn't someone else who needs this more? I don't want to... well, you know. I would just rather it go to someone else if they need it.
Cal stood, still facing raion as she spoke Maybe we should go and find a place to sit? We can dine together? she wasn't 100% sure if he had intended on a visit, or if he wanted this to be more like a drop and run. There was a lot of uncertainty in their arrangmnt, things that would work themselves out eventually, but for now, things were just a little bit on the awkward side.
She turned, and pointed to the large boulder she had sat on earlier today, it was just such a welcoming spot. Cal had... grown attached to it. Yes. Attached to a boulder. Because that was a normal human thing to feel. Cal justified it by the fact that nothing here was normal. She reached out to take the food from Raion, she figured the least she could do was carry it the 60 fet it would take them to reach their picnic area. The next words slipped out before she had the opportunity to rethink them. So, what did you do with your time before you had to fill it with rescuing everyone? Cal couldn't decide if it was too early to talk about life pre-crash. She wasn't part of the group and wasn't sure if it was something that people talked about. But the majority of their lives were somewhere else, cal couldn't imagine getting to know someone without first knowing where they were coming from.

Raion watched her changing expressions with amusement. She really hadn't expected him to arrive, and baring food, did she? She didn't know Raion. He was such a people pleaser. Maybe it was pathetic. A smile plastered his face despite everything. He debated sitting down in the sand, but she had stood up after her happy exclamations at the sight of him. He took a moment to carefully bow to her in a curtsy-like manner, making sure the pieces of fish filets stayed on his arm. Before he said anything in response, Cal continued on with a little bit of a ramble about whether or not she was meant to eat this food. He raised a brow at her and shook his head. "Now now, Cal. Take your own advice. Sometimes we have to be a little selfish. Hehe. Yes, I'm sure this is alright."The breeze ruffled his hair, but he was glad for the temperature of the air. So nice out. He could spend every morning on the beach. Maybe tomorrow, he'd get out here in time for the sunrise. Cal spoke of finding a place to rest and eat, and he looked around their environment, searching for a worthy place. He did plan on staying, but he sensed the awkwardness in the air; she was such a nervous thing. He had not seen that side of her until yesterday. He'd imagined her to be much more like a social buff. Everybody had something, though. She pointed to the boulder and his eyes followed there. It looked like a great spot. Heck, it would work well for his sunrise idea too. "Looks perfect! Let's eat," he responded cheerfully, walking through the thick beach sand now. He was grateful for her motion to take the food off his hands, but it certainly wasn't necessary. He glanced at the grease, and with a momentary hesitance, he decided to wipe it on his shirt. Not like it mattered anymore. Cal asked him about his life as they walked to their destination. He looked at her before responding, trying to see her expression. It didn't say much, she just looked like easy-going Cal now. Her best look. "Err... Where do I begin? Well, I worked for my uncle doing construction work. More specifically, I was on my hands and knees doing tile work. Sometimes wood flooring too. Jack of all trades, sort of. I'm only twenty-two so I'm still learning a lot."He kept it light and short, unless she asked for more. He had a lot of history, really, but sadly, most of it was not happy and he wouldn't be able to talk about it for quite some time.

If You're Walking Through Hell and High Water
#599 @raion He was being much to kind, she figured, there wasn't a way that he knew how guilty of being selfish she was. Cal did the math in her head and settled that she had been selfish enough for at least 5 lifetimes. Minimum. She tried not to think about it. Everything she did as of late seemed selfish. She had been able to justify it by saying that she was one less mouth to feed - however as she eyed up the food she realized that she wasn't even ale to use that logic anymore. Pathetic.
His approval of her spot eased some of the tension she was feeling - her lungs were burning from holding her breath, but she was finally able to breathe properly again, filling them with the heavy, wet air. It was nice to be out of the jungle - in the sun, on the beach. She had spent so much time hiding in the trees that she hadn't really been able to enjoy the beach or the ocean.
She watched as he used his shirt as a towel, and wondered for a moment why he didn't just wash it off in the water, but then figured that it didn't actually matter much anyway. Different folks, different strokes. She again wrapped her hair into a bun on top of her head, it was nice having it off of her face. She figured it would make for a better breakfast if she wasn't eating her own hair.
Her posture relaxed as they began shifting through he heavy sand, making it to the boulder in short time. She was also grateful for his response to her question - he didn't seem uncomfortable talking out he past; it was refreshing. Her mind absorbed his words and she tried to imaging him on a construction site, it was difficult and made sense all at one. She nodded along gently at his words, showing that she was following along.
They reached the boulder in short order, it was almost the perfect size for two. She turned to Raion and handed him the food - she was going to get her favorite spot back. With a small umph she pulled herself onto the rock and stood, her eyes scanning for that little crook in the stone. Once she settled she reached out again to gather the food, giving Raion the opportunity to find a cozy space to sit. Have you ever been to Virginia? Cal thought about the time she and Cody had road tripped there freshman year of college there is this tunnel that goes underwater, but the sides are all tiled. She smiled at the memory I remember thinking about how long it must have taken to tile that whole damn thing. At least a month, I would imagine!
She smooched her back into the rock, moving side to side gently, it was like a back scratch, it felt nice. Although, I don't really know anything about tiling She concluded, watching him. The bit about the tunnel was really trivial, she wasn't actually sure why she had even though to say it out loud. What a dweebish thing to say.
Only twenty-two she repeated. She too was was "only 22" and yet she felt older than hell. Like the world had taught her all that she could bear to learn and now she was stuck making a life out of it. You old man Cal realized that a silence had settled and filled it with a chuckle and a wink. She couldn't wait to bite into the fish, her mouth was watering in anticipation.

Raion had gotten used to hunger as of late. They all did. Generally they'd eat once or twice a day, depending on the success of the fishing crew. For the most part, everybody was getting better and better at it, so food was starting to be less of an obstacle. Still, he was really feeling it now as they reached their destination, and made themselves comfortable on top of its perch. With a rumbling belly, he sat on the rock with his legs hanging off of the side. His jeans had been so uncomfortable, but with the days and days of constant wear, they almost seemed to be breaking down into a fabric softer than intended. The salt water helped, too. In a few weeks, though, maybe he wouldn't have much of his pants left. When that day came, he was honestly going to be terrified. Cal asked him if he'd ever been to Virginia. He thought of the few places he'd been. Virginia was not one of them. His family was practically destitute after his father abandoned them, so Raion spent most of his days working and working some more. Travel was expensive and he'd had no reason for it. The farthest he had gone was South Carolina to see his grandfather, a lonely, crotchety old man with lots of stories to tell. "I didn't get around much," he said with vagueness in his reply. His gaze was out towards the ocean now, mesmerized by the rise and fall of swirling waves crashing into the sand. "I was born and raised in northern Florida and stayed there most of the time. There's a lot of the world I wish I had seen. That tunnel, for instance, sounds really cool. A job like that would've kept me employed for life, haha. But I'm sure with enough guys on the job it was probably a few weeks, yeah."He felt peaceful but strangely unsettled as their conversation began. His life made him extremely uncomfortable. Everything about it had driven him further and further away from achieving his dreams. And he really hadn't ever asked for much. There was nothing but sadness behind him, with a few smiles here and there, like the time spent with Serena, his little sister. They played lots of gameboy games together growing up. Back in the day, they couldn't afford a Nintendo 64 or anything like it, so the Gameboy Color was the real deal for them. He glanced at Cal right around when she was using the rock like a back-scratcher. He had a small, gentle smile on his face, but seemed distracted but his many thoughts of what he had left behind. The dark secret of why he was really on that plane hung over him, taunting him every second he was here. What about her, though? What did she have waiting for her in Santiago? "I feel young most of the time. Inexperienced, because all I ever had to do was work. I wanted to get out and do something more exciting. Tile work was fun, but I wanted to be someone more...exciting. Like, an EMT or a dolphin trainer, heh."He plucked one of the bananas he'd brought and snapped it open, leaving all of the fish for Cal if she wanted it. He wouldn't say anything if she didn't ask. Later, when he got hungry again, there'd be more fish waiting, most likely. "How old are you? What kind of life did you have?"Such deep questions that suddenly had more weight to them than the days before the crash. Asking it was like asking about the history of a dead loved one. Nothing mattered anymore, and yet it was still interesting to most everyone here on the island.

If You're Walking Through Hell and High Water
#599 @raion Cal reached and broke a small corner of the fish, placing it in her mouth. It was… divine. She had tried to brace herself for it, not being much of a fish fan she had prepared for the worst. But even the unevenly cooked bit of fish that she had put in her mouth was like heaven. Glorious. She timidly reached for another.
She absorbed Raion's words as her eyes watched him reach for a banana, her own hand doing the same, mimicking his motion. His words made her a little uneasy. Privileged. She tried to wipe any evidence of it off of her face. She simply had an opportunity and took it. No shame in that. Right? Florida. That was a pretty neat place. She could tell that he wasn't all there with her; it was ok. She wasn't offended. Or at least not noticeably. Cal could be quiet the attention whore when push came to shove, and she was lacking any other human interaction, so she craved the time she spent with Raion to be time actually spent with Raion.
There you go again, being all selfish.
I have some grandparents who live in Florida. But, I'm not actually sure where about in Florida they are In her mind she spent some time imagining a map of the state, pinpointing the location of her family. Fort Meyers, maybe? It's a good distance from Disney World The memory of the tunnel was a personal one; she should have just kept it to herself.
She was thankful for the change in topic as he began talking about the things he wished he had done with his life. She could empathize with wanting to be something more. Her laugh rang out when he talked about being a dolphin trainer. Not at the idea, but at the irony. I actually am a dolphin trainer she winked, reaching for one last bite of fish. Or well, not a trainer, but I have the education! I just graduation with my B.S. in marine biology Her eyes left his body for a quick second to again scan the beach. She wasn't nervous per say; she just wanted to make sure nobody else decided to wander to the beach.
Have you ever heard of the Sea Shepherds? Cal asked, pushing the remainder of the fish towards him, she wasn't going to allow him to bring her the fish with out sharing in it with her. They're a group of crazies who go around attacking ships that hunt whales… I was on my way to join their crew. Cal hadn't actually intended to set sail with the Shepherds; they jut had a couple of samples for her to check out and she was more than happy to help while she could.
I'm twenty-two also, but most days I feel older, act younger she chucked again Old enough to know better, young enough not to care, you know. Her fingers worked through her hair. She was calm. Her body was relaxed for the first time in over 24 hours and she was enjoying her company. All in all this was shaping p to be a pert decent morning. I'm from Wisconsin… northern Wisconsin. I have a mom and a dad and an older brother. Pretty standard childhood. Went to school. had a daughter Graduated. Wound up here. Think the government will forgive my student loans? Cal joked, turning her head back to the waves. Watching them as the washed in and then were pulled back up. It was a beautiful, tireless relationship.

The feel of food now in his belly was comforting. One of the few luxuries of his previous life was being able to eat whatever he wanted, mostly when he wanted it. A cheeseburger was what he craved now. Even just some condiments to go with their fish filets would be nice. The fire they cooked it over gave it a nice smoked flavor, at least. His mouth drooled as he watched Cal take another piece of it, in a shy way that seemed out of character for her. Things had changed in her since their previous meetings, he thought. Or maybe not. Their couple of meetings had been short and shallow, so maybe some shy pieces of end personality had just slipped by him.He nodded when she mentioned Fort Meyers."Meyers is my last name, so I always joked about Fort Meyers as a kid," he chimed in, smiling as he remembered his mom talking about how silly he was for wanting to move there. He seemed caught off guard when Cal revealed that she was actually a marine biologist. That was an awesome job to have! And it was unexpected. Yet, it seemed to fit her vivacious personality."Holy crap. I'll have to be best friends with you so I can come over to see you at work," he said, right before he took another quick bite of the banana. "Never heard of the Sea Shepherds. But damn, that sounds hardcore. So... You were going to be like the Batman of the ocean. A vigilante of whales. Heh. Now that's the kind of interesting I'm talking about."Like Cal had done, Raion's brown eyes scanned the beach almost mindlessly. There were some clouds approaching; they might get a bit of rain in a little while. No people, though. Most of them would be at the gulf for the day's fishing. They had been talking about having some kind of party there later tonight. Bonfires, food, singing and dancing. He was planning on inviting Cal, but figured it'd be hopeless. Still, if he could just get her to meet, say Kelly, she'd probably change her mind about things. Kelly had a way of putting anyone at ease.He listened to Cal tell more about herself. Wisconsin sounded nice. He just liked the cold weather. He didn't get a lot of it where he lived. A few frosty nights in the late winter, maybe. She joked about studen loans, which brought his ever-active mind towards a subject he had already considered. He itched at the back of his head while lost in thought."I think we will be something like celebrities when we are found. At the very least, I think that airline is going to give you some hefty compensation. Student loans will be a thing of the past when we are rescued."He winked at her, in a casual way, knowing he was sounding more positive than he probably felt at this point. It had been fun to think things like that, though. Coming from a life of poverty, how could he not be tempted by the idea? A few stressful weeks out on there own with a lifetime of comfort later.

If You're Walking Through Hell and High Water
#599 @raion Cal paced herself through the rest of her banana, her belly filling surprisingly quickly. It was like Thanksgiving dinner had just be served when in reality she had consumed had a fish filet and an overripe banana. She folded the peel and placed it on the stone next to her. She smiled at Reion's relation with Fort Meyers. She had been there a few times, but she didn't remember anything particularly special about it - just that it had been warm and there was a pool in the community where her grandparents lived. She shifted so her knees were bent and her hands were placed behind her, propping her body up.
She couldn't hold in her laughter at the sound of his amusement with her career choice. "Batman of the ocean" Her head tilted back for a moment, the sun warming her face. I don't know if I would go that far! I'm just going to look at some samples they took Cal moved her gaze back onto Raion But, they accept all sorts of people aboard; you could be my co-worker Cal knew that the pay was awful, the living conditions worse, and that it meant long periods of time spent on the ocean away from loved ones. Cal had declined the opportunity for a 6 month long venture to the seas and Japan with the fleet and instead opted for the two week time period in an on shore lab. She was passionate about the mission; she just didn't want to spend that much time away from Neenah.
Funny how fate works.
Cal bit into her bottom lip as Raion, once again, seemed to be a bit distracted. She understood. It was hard to let your mind be in any one place here. It was always wandering, preparing for the next thing, the next challenge, the next idea. At least, that's the way it had always been for her.
Cal enjoyed the imagery that his next words provided her. Celebrities. She imagined a group of survivors on The Ellen Show, NBC News, Travel Channel and Discovery. She thought about the books that they could write, the articles in the newspaper and magazines. She thought about the scientists who would come to this island to search for new species and to classify the ecosystem. It was overwhelming and comforting all a the same time.
I'm going to buy a quaint little cottage up in the mountains of Colorado with my money. Cal closed her eyes for just the briefest of seconds to imagine the craftsman home with a little blue door; the view of the valley from her front deck. And then I'll be too busy going on adventures to spend any time in it She thought about all of the travels she and Neenah would do. All of the places she wanted her daughter to see. What would you do Raion? Where would you go?
One hand worked through her hair as her eyes again spotted the dolphins playing in the waves. It was almost picture perfect. The thing abbout pictures though was that hey didn't show the heat, or the humidity, or the starving people sitting on a rock, talking about futures that no longer belonged to them.

The minutes ticked away, and he started to feel a little less uneasy. Nobody else seemed to be out here, so he became less and less worried about Cal and he being spotted. She might think he'd done it purpose, or something. He tossed his banana peel as far as he could, and it went flying through the air and landed in the sand in a gritty splash. He smiled; it had gone a decent ways. Not that he was showing off.She mentioned bringing him aboard that ship with her and the thought was a little scary. He wasn't sure he could ever be on a boat or a plane again after all of this was over. Fear was habitually ingrained in him through his personal experiences. If only he had more confidence. And yet, the whole reason he was in this mess now was because he was a coward, looking to find something different in the world, something better than what was left behind. Shouldn't he jump at every new opportunity now?"I'm hardly the kind of person to do something like that. I'm too scared of the world," he said with honesty, shrugging when he turned to her. He pulled himself back against the rock and lifted his legs up until they were bent against his chest. "Being out at sea is probably the last thing I could handle now."She seems to perk up when he talked about the possibilities of their futures. He tried to convince himself it was all silly thinking, but why shouldn't it be believable? People don't survive plane crashes and live in the wild everyday, like they had all done. They were living in the midst of a great story. One could only hope they'd be able to tell it.He enjoyed the ocean breeze ruffling through his hair as he wondered what he would do with fame and money. The things he really longer for weren't all bought. But, he did know what he really wanted as far as spending goes."Travel the world, and not live anywhere. Meet all kinds of people, from different places," he told her, his face growing thoughtful. "That's what I had started when I got on the plane."Well, it had kind of worked out. He certainly had gone somewhere new and exciting, and met new people along the way. Not quite how he pictured things happening, but Raion stopped expecting the best a long time ago. His eyes went to the dolphins the same time Cal's did. What a sight to see!"Except, I'm actually dirt poor, and I wasn't sure what was going to happen."
He realized he had somehow gotten into some kind of mood funk, and wondered if it was effecting Cal's mood, too. He quickly planted a smile back on his face and remembered why he was here - to check up on Cal and try to convince her to eventually come back to the group.
"Oh, sorry. I'm a little melodramatic sometimes. It happens when I'm tired," he apologized suddenly, and on cue, a yawn took over his expression.

If You're Walking Through Hell and High Water
#599 @raion Cal’s eyes followed the banana peel as it was flung onto the beach. Her own body eased with his, and she sank into the stone with a relieved sigh. Raion had been honest so far, and she could feel herself slowly giving into the trap that is trust. A gentle breeze was consent and welcome; if it weren’t for everybody else Cal would just set up base here on the beach, it was beautiful, close to the water, and the coolest place she had found to date. Other than maybe the lagoon, but that was always full of people.
His words reminded her that she didn’t actually know the male any better than she knew anybody else here. She didn’t know his wants, his dreams, his desires, his favorite color for God’s sake. She felt a little guilty. Maybe if she had spent time on the beach with the group she would have a better sense for the mental state of those around her… then again, who really had time to talk about favorite colors in a place like this?
She had figured after this there wouldn’t be much that she would be afraid of. Taking the opportunity to make her a stronger individual. It was a Cal thing. I mean, I guess she shrugged but what do you think the chances are of something like this happening to someone twice in one lifetime? She didn’t mean to press, but she was curious about what in the human mind caused people to use experience as an excuse. Cal too was an up and coming world traveler. She had big plans for when Neenah was older, the two of the gallivanting around the world while Neenah was homeschooled on the fishing boats and labs ships Cal worked in. The thought brought a fragile smile to her face, but it quickly vanished.
Cal thought about traveling the world, carefree, making connections with strangers in places most people only dream about. You have the same opportunity here She had yet to talk to two people coming from the same place. all kinds of people from all kinds of places She tucked her knees and crossed her arms, rubbing her fingers against the skin of her forearms.
The mood was dreary. Maybe bogged down by the heavy air. Money is the root of all evil she shrugged again. She had never been rich, but her family had done pretty alright. Well enough to send her to college and help her with Neenah when she needed it. Cal unwrapped one arm and tapped her fingernails against the rock. Her mind was decaying with lack of use and her body was tired from running on pure adrenaline.
Cal stood and hopped off of their perch, the sand warm from the rising sun. Wanna do something? Like take a swim? Or rebuild my poor castle? Or hunt monkeys? Or anything? boredom would be the death of survivors Cal thought. They were just going to deteriorate waiting for something to happen. Oh Cal thought, looking back over her shoulder what’s your favorite color?

The dolphins seemed to be herding out to sea now, popping up farther and farther away every so often. He did feel a sense of calm now that he hadn't had before. They had food in their bellies, now, and were making some deep conversation. Raion was always good for in-depth discussions, especially when they involved people in particular. He was able to shake off most of his funk as the talk turned away more towards outward instead of inward. He liked to talk, but maybe he still wasn't ready to think about everything left behind at home. It hurt. He wondered about everything she responded with, especially the bit about something like this happening twice. She had a point; planes didn't go down every day, much like you don't hear about disappearing ships every day. Still, he felt differently, and was negative enough to believe that life hadn't yet thrown him the worst. There was still that chance, there always was, and all he could think about now was getting home and staying safely indoors. Still, it was just a mere thought, and he didn't voice it out loud. Even he knew it was silly to be that way. He nodded as she talked of opportunity. He certainly had met many faces after all of this. Many kinds of people, all thrown into a situation that made them suddenly a large family of some sort. At least, Raion felt as though it was his family, even if they were all still getting to know each other and albeit sometimes dysfunctional. Cal certainly was a part of it, too. He smiled at the girl in front of him, a bundle full of energetic fire. It was weird to think of her in that moment, in that way. Kelly flashed into his mind and it surprised him to feel some kind of stab of guilt because of it. Did he have feelings for Cal, or was he just paranoid? Truly he felt it was the latter and brushed it off. He admired Cal a lot and he'd barely known her for long. She was certainly impressive. But every moment he spent with her, he was also pining to be by Kelly's side. Every morning he woke up wondering if she was alright, and every night, he searched out her form in the sleeping crowd and let himself sleep only once he knew she was settled. The same could go for Cal, if given time, but maybe not in the same desperate way - because Raion always cared. "I hadn't really thought about all of this as some kind of answer to my thirst for something different. Maybe I was meant to be here, though. To be honest, I had almost...ah. Never mind. I'm trying not to be depressing," he cut himself short, watching as Cal started to move from where she sat. His eyes followed her as she jumped away into the sand. He followed suit. She wanted to keep moving. Raion didn't mind, but he did feel torn two ways. There was so much do to, or, he always felt anxious to be working on something productive. He considered all the options she threw out on the table. Hunting for monkeys could certainly be fun, but maybe he should take a moment to rest. Take care of his nagging anxiety. Swimming sounded refreshing, and even building a sand castle. "Let's stick around here, I suppose. It really doesn't matter to me. A swim sounds refreshing."She tossed him another, more random question. He raised a brow and grinned at it, looking down to the ground as he thought of the correct answer. "Green," he told her. "Lime green, forest green, olive green. What about you?"He trudged through the sand and, as an afterthought, flicked off his tennis shoes and socks. No need to wear these if they were to be in the sand and water. "My turn. Do you have siblings? I have a little sister. Er, not so little now."
