NIX NIGHT Shadow of the Night
It wasnt much but it was home, and that was something key for this whole mess. Nix found herself thinking to herself again as she sat outside the cave she had come to claim and she smiled to herself, this felt right now. She had a little bit of grass piled in one side of the cave where she was currently sleeping and her array of items were laying beside it for now. She would pack them up in her bag and take them with her when she left, she didnt want anyone getting their hands on her stuff. She didnt mean to distrust people, it just happened naturally.
The one thing that she was leaving here was the stuffed rabbit plush she had found, she had come to name it bonnie and was leaving it here for a most odd reason. She wanted it to be safe should she fall or drown or something else daft happen, she didnt know why but her mind had thought of it one day and now the rabbit waited here in her little grass nest to wait for her to come home. Maybe that was it, maybe coming home to someone waiting for you was the moral boost she was using here to keep going.

"This do I swear I will be there" It seemed strange how the island surroundings seemed to feel a lot more like a home to him with each day that passed. It didn't shock him as much anymore when his eyes opened in the morning to gaze at the wall of whichever cave he had retired to for the night. Thomas did consider the fact that moving around quite a lot probably wasn't helping since it was harder to track the nearest water and food for when he needed it. Well, food hadn't been quite as hard as water since there were some familiar fruits on some of the trees the man had passed. A now all too familiar rumble in his stomach told the tall male that it would be a good time to seek out some more berries or whatever else he could find that would definitely be safe to eat. The small backpack that contained everything he now owned was slung onto his shoulders before moving out of the cave. He definitely wasn't leaving anything behind since he didn't know if he would actually return to that cave or not. His left without a second glance.
Out in the open he could have sworn there was the sound of a bird singing a happy tune while swooping over the trees. It almost seemed out of place considering the circumstances that had brought him and the other survivors to the strange island. That coupled with the fact there had still been no sighting of the smaller blonde that had been sat next to him made such a cheerful tune seem strange. Still the man stopped to hear the final notes of the tune before proceeding forward. If the 18 year old remembered correctly there was a small bush not far away that had a meager supply of food so it only made sense to head there before searching anywhere new. Recognizing where he had just gone to he changed direction the way he remembered the bush being.
At least he had been sure he was supposed to turn where he did. Instead of what the man had been expecting his surroundings were getting less and less familiar with every step forward his feet took. There was no bush boasting food but a grassy area where some of the grass seemed to have been pulled up by someone else already. Stopping to analyze his new surroundings Thomas could spot what looked like yet another cave in the distance. Catching sight of some grey clouds in the sky he decided that would be the best way forward just in case the heavens decided to open again. A cold was the last thing he needed on top of everything else currently on his mind.
Upon reaching it Thomas found it hard to ignore the fact that there was a figure already perched outside of the cave. Getting closer he could see the stranger clearer. It was a woman. By the looks of it she was around the same age as him. Thinking back he could remember seeing someone like that back at Atlanta airport in the line to get on the plane. Looking past her a second the 18 year old could see grass inside the cave along with a couple of other items he guessed belonged to the female. His eyes widened at the next discovery. There was something furry and soft looking in there. A plush? His feet moved faster towards the cave in order to get a view until the sight of fluffy rabbit ears halted them and the man let out a breath he hadn't even realized was being held. It wasn't Kayden's teddy plush. His eyes once again found the girl, studying her face and hoping she wasn't going to loom at him like he had gone mad even though it probably looked like it from the outside just moments ago.

NIX NIGHT Shadow of the Night
Nix shifted her feet on the sand so they were sitting before her and she wrapped her hands around them, she knew she needed to do something today but she just couldnt her herself to move yet. "You have water, bottles all full which gives you three days so thats fine. You have some palm fiber but that's only really enough for 2 days so you need to do something, go, set traps" she muttered to herself, thinking out loud to try and make it sound like someone was in control here. She found herself talking to herself more and more now, it was like there was a second person with her telling her to get a grip on herself that way.
It was then she heard the crunching of sand and her head turned, she noted a male around her age in the treeline behind her before his face seemed to shift and he moved forwards. He was close to coming level to her when the look on his face faded and nix tilted her head, following his gaze to Bonnie sitting in her bed and she sighed softly. "Sorry, does he belong to you? Or someone you knew?" she asked, a little sadness flitting on to her face. She had always been the motherly type, being protective and teaching people made her happy and she knew she was treating that little pile of stuffing and stitches as a person so it would be sad to have to give him up.
However, she also knew that if this male owned him or knew who had done then she had no right to keep a toy she was using to make herself happy. She turned herself a little on the sand, her eyes darting to the sky for a moment before she noted the darker cloud and she sighed. "I thought the rain was done" she muttered, her comment for for herself than for the male but she expected he had heard it.

"This do I swear I will be there" Thomas could have cursed himself for what he considered acting rather stupidly on sight of the small plush. What was with him since being thrust onto the island? It seemed some things had been making him a little more jumpy than usual. The man tried hard to convince himself it was just because he wasn't used to being somewhere new with only a group of complete strangers. Studying his new companions face it occurred to him that she had most likely noticed. Eyes following her gaze he could have sworn it was the inside of the cave the woman was looking at. Catching sight of the bunny again prompted his lips to let out a sigh without realizing. It was something his best friend would have liked. That was for sure. The problem was that the tall man's hope of finding the blonde alive was growing smaller by the day and something like that easily managed to bring the situation home in his mind.
He heard the woman ask if it belonged to him or someone he knew. It was easy to tell she was talking about the rabbit plush perched on the grass bed inside the cave. So she had noticed his interest in it. Thomas thought on how best to respond to her. Did the situation even require words?. It wasn't like he was going to tell her the whole story of why he had acted that way on seeing a soft, fluffy plush. Not how it was the same color as his friend's teddy or that it had given him hope before quickly dashing the feeling. No. She was a stranger and even his friends probably wouldn't have gotten him to admit that let alone someone he was meeting for the first time. A mere shake of the head would have to suffice. It should tell her what she wanted to know anyway.
Looking at the woman's face Thomas allowed himself to feel a little glad that it wasn't what he had first suspected. Was it him or did she seem a little glum at the idea that it might belong to someone that had survived? The 18 year old could think of a couple of reasons for it. Possibly she liked the plush and didn't want to give it up or maybe he just didn't look like the kind of person she suspected would have such an item. Both options seemed viable to him. The curiosity at observing her actions failed to show on his face but it drove him to follow her gaze up to the sky. Her mutter about thinking the rain had finished reached his ears and a single word left his lips. "Yeah." The man eyed the cave the woman seemed to have claimed. It would definitely be the closest shelter if there was yet another downpour to come.

NIX NIGHT Shadow of the Night
Well that was a huge load of nothing to go on. The red head watched as the male looked her over and watched her, rolling her eyes as he said nothing but she noted the shake of his head. It did make her wonder why he cared about the item or why he thought ht might have done but she wasnt going to ask, if he wanted to bring it up he would have done by now so he had just told her she was allowed to keep her little friend. It was sad, she knew it was a lame thing to do but she wanted to keep bonnie with her.
He finally spoke as it seemed he did hear her comment, she sighed at this before she lifted herself from the sand. She bent over and dusted down her knees before her back and then looked up, she took a moment to think before she nodded to herself. She had a little time before this hit if the wind didnt speed up, maybe enough time to wander and make from traps from the little bits of fiber she had twisted together. It wasnt strong string but it was something, and she needed meat and expected other would too which gave her power to trade which was always nice.

"This do I swear I will be there" Thomas decided to quickly eye the other contents in the cave to see if she had anything that might be worth trading for in the future when he actually had something to trade. There looked to be a small supply of water there. It made him wonder where the girl had been to get it. The stuff looked purer than the water from any of the small sources he had found. It could have been brought at the airport after security and put in her carry on but then how many bottles would she have had to buy to still have some left after this long? There didn't seem to be much in the way of food though. Maybe both of them hadn't managed to find anything really substantial yet or maybe the woman had consumed the better stuff before he had stumbled upon her. It seemed though like this stranger had done pretty well in surviving against the elements. Better than him anyway. He hadn't even managed to find a permanent place to rest his head or a constant source of food and water. All his time had been spent moving from place to place. Seeing the benefits of staying put made the tall man actually think of doing the same himself as soon as he could find somewhere.
His attention was distracted from the cave when it's owner got up off the sand and started to dust herself off. Now she was stood up Thomas could get a good judgement of her height. She was a fairly tall woman. He estimated that she couldn't be too much below six feet in height. Still a little bit shorter than him but not too much. The 18 year old could have sworn he saw a light nod of his companion's head. There was silence. In some ways he still wasn't used to things being so quiet. Back home in Atlanta there would usually be at least one voice being heard wherever he went. More often than not around him the voice belonged to one of the closest people to him. He may be used to not talking much but still found it strange to have nothing to listen to but the whistle created by light wind and the happy chirping of birds in the sky.
Another thing Thomas wasn't so used to was feeling a little awkward with just having someone in the immediate vicinity. Usually there would be conversation even if it was rarely from him. At home one of his parents would usually break the ice with other people and at school it was often Kayden that did it. Now he didn't have either of them and it made the whole idea of trying to spark some sort of conversation so much harder. Back then only a word or two on occasion was needed and that suited him. Mentally the man willed himself to try and say something that would encourage the woman to talk to him. Being on this island would be much harder if he kept to himself. More people could cover more ground and gather more supplies between them. He opened his mouth to address the female with an indistinguishable expression on his face.

NIX NIGHT Shadow of the Night
Nothing. Nix turned her body to face the male who looked in to her cave again, the female felt her hands curl a little at this but she closed her eyes and sucked in at the air. "slowly" she muttered to herself and she gave a soft breath and calmed herself, she needed to stop thinking the worst of people. Maybe he just wanted to see how well she was doing compared to him, maybe he just wanted to see what could be done.
She watched him look at her before she could see his face, he was trying very hard to make this normal. Normal people spoke about things, how work was or how freinds were, and she knew this was something most expected. She tried to think of something, noting the males face gapping a little as it seemed he tried to think of something too. "Not good at this either?" she asked, her giving in to her more open and up front side within seconds of trying to be nice.

"This do I swear I will be there" He couldn't decide whether it was surprise or annoyance that was coursing through him as words failed to come out of his mouth when opened. Since when had a few words at least been so difficult? Thomas looked over at the woman, who was probably wondering if he had some sort of speech problem due to his current lack of conversation. Her face seemed like it was in thought. What sort of thought he had no idea and he didn't want to try and go through an endless list of possibilities right now. This really wasn't going well at all in the man's opinion. As much as he wasn't exactly a talker it would be bad to be known by other survivors as someone who doesn't socialize and isn't very approachable. Not exactly a good impression to give to strangers who could help you survive the island. He as about to open his mouth and talk to her when the woman's voice stopped him.
Wait. She wasn't good at the whole proper conversation thing either? At least that made two of them. Maybe that meant the woman wouldn't think of him quite as badly as he had feared she would. It was unusual for him to come across others who felt as awkward as he did when trying to communicate on his own. When the 18 year old did find such people he made as much effort as possible to try and hold a good conversation with them as he presumed they would try too. He stared for a moment before slowly shaking his head to indicate no. That felt more comfortable than saying it for the moment. There was a small and rapid amount of mental planning in his head to try and figure out what to say. Then it came to him and a breath was released before his mouth opened again. This time they released the sound he wanted to. "Someone else normally does the talking for me."

NIX NIGHT Shadow of the Night
Nix felt a little odd watching the other person, she could see he was trying very hard to make words and think of something to say but he also seemed to be unable to get anything out. She smiled softly as he finally spoke and she nodded her head, "I can understand that, taking the lead after being second for so long must be hard. I barely ever learned to talk so learning the way to address humans and to converse was something i never learned at all" she said in a long breath. Maybe this would help, showing the male that she was as bad as he was at this and there was a reason.
She didnt know of course, she was awful at talking with people and her time here was showing her that very well. She wanted to walk away and take to making snares, hopefully trapping something to use later but she also felt like she couldnt just leave someone who was struggling. She was tempted for a moment in invite him but she then wondered if he would be of use, someone who wandered loudly through the trees would more likely be something that would annoy her and end in another negative meeting for her.

"This do I swear I will be there" Finally. There was a huge step being taken inside his mind at hearing the words leave his mouth. It might not have seemed that much of an achievement to anyone else who would have been watching but for him it brought a relaxing sensation to his body that could only be created by relief. Thomas though It was a little weird how a mere sentence could have such an effect but knew better than to waste time questioning it. He caught the woman's face at the moment her lips curled themselves into a smile and a small breath was released from his own. Hopefully it meant she was pleased that he had actually spoken to her There was also a nod of the head which further confirmed that instinct. It was supportive to him to receive a positive response like the one that had just occurred. He wasn't exactly talkative no matter who it was around but there were still those few more words for those he was closer to than there would be for others. There may have been no return to her smile but he was definitely just that little bit more comfortable than he had been moments ago.
Thinking back to the contents of the cave and pondering on how well the woman had done for herself despite being unceremoniously brought to an island in what seemed to be the middle of nowhere made the man come to decision that actually slightly surprised him. Was he really going to see if she would team up with him even though the female was still very much a stranger at the moment. As she spoke to him it only egged him on to go for his idea. Maybe he should explain a little. If anyone could understand why he was looking for one of the few people who made the whole conversation thing less awkward for him it might be this female, who also had admitted trouble when it came to handling social situations solo. There was an amount of thought before Thomas finally believed he had come up with a way of describing things to her. "I'm sorry if I startled you by running here. I couldn't see the plush was a bunny until it was closer. It is the same color as my best friend's bear plush. I thought he might be here. He makes things...easier if you get what i mean."

NIX NIGHT Shadow of the Night
Nix watched the male and she could see it, his eyes seemed to grow a little light as she spoke. She was more used to reading animals and seeing how they felt than humans an they couldnt speak so she could pick up cues from little things easily, a flick of an ear or the curl of a finger or the slip of an eye told her so much more than someone crossing their arms. It clearly took the male a moment but he worked himself out and spoke again and nix frowned before she nodded her head in reply, how best to answer that. "Im sorry, i assume you dont know if he...well...." she said before she faltered and paused. It was not a good idea to talk about people who werent here, either they werent going to be here or they were alone out there with no one beside them and nether was a nice thought.
"His name is bonnie, i know its not much but the idea of having someone waiting or just having someone makes things....easier" nix said, trying to move the topic a little off of negative things. The male had his own ways of making things easier for himself and people who would do it and so maybe showing him she did the same would be a good thing. Sure, her coping was a small furry rabbit and his had been a real freind but the idea behind both was the same, or she figured it was.
