The sun was going down, but his spirits were soaring - everyone was elated - as he and Raion dragged the carcasses of several freshly-caught monkeys to the sands of the gulf.
The two of them had been organizing this hunt for days now, trying to fashion spears strong and heavy, but light enough to throw with strength. They finally caught their first hunk of meat today. Once that had happened, their courage lifted and the fire within them drove them catch more, enough to feed the group and possibly more. Whatever left overs they might have they could dry and save for tomorrow night.
Zach had already started stripping the skins of the beasts off as best as he could. He had never skinned a monkey, but at least he had worked on other animals before. Raion was nearby, gathering enough wood for a huge bonfire. It had been decided that everyone would eat out here for once, under the stars and next to the calm waves of the ocean. With a meat other than fish, they were going to be eating good, and everybody was in a great mood. People played music from their phones, no longer worried about draining battery life. People were adjusting their thinking now. A couple of people were laughing and dancing in the sand, and Zach actually found himself stopping his work to smile at the energy of the group. Raion, too, having gotten s fire going, stepped next to him and shoved his hands into his pockets. They had done good today. It was time to have fun.

Maybe it was the energy of the group or maybe it was Lori just being stupid, but she found her way to the party a little smashed. Her and Zach, having found their little safe haven not long ago (what was it, like three or four days now? She couldn't be sure), was taking great advantage over the alcohol stored away like a pirate's treasure. Hell, maybe it was a pirate's treasure. She had been completely unable to age the drinks, considering none of the bottles had had visible labels. But, as she snaked along the beach, nearly falling over with each third step as the sand shifted underneath her bare feet, she chugged the rest of the mysterious bottle, and chucked it into the ocean that lapped at the beach. If anyone found it, they could assume it was a letter in a bottle gone wrong. Without a trace of the alcohol in it, they wouldn't have any issues. And, much like her and Zach had discussed at some point upon finding the clubhouse, if anyone asked, Lori had only a few personal bottles from before the crash that were hers and hers only. No one would care if she hoarded her own alcohol, but if Zach had been hoarding it? People would probably question his leadership over them all. Lori was expendable, Zach was not.
So, stumbling the whole way, Lori finally ended up in the small camp that was gathering speed. People were singing, dancing, even joking around. It was like a good ole movie with the drunk teenagers hanging out on the beach, getting in all kinds of trouble; except, Lori was the only drunk one. It wasn't hard finding Zach. As much as she hated to admit it, the two had a magnetic pull. They always seemed to find each other. Misery loves company.
"Zach," she cooed, coming from behind him and wrapping her arms around his neck so that she lazily leaned over his bent frame as if expecting a piggy-back ride. Her eyes did widen at the flesh being pulled from the muscle of the animal. At this point, she couldn't really tell what it was. Looking over at the pile of unskinned monkeys, she was quick to realize exactly what he was preparing for dinner. Her stomach lurched at the thought of eating a monkey. "I think..I'll stick with fish," she slurred looking up at him with glassy eyes as she leaned against him with a majority of her dead weight.

"I'm not random, you just can't think as fast as me." |
Sable had been stuck on this island for, well, she didn't know how long as of now. Living of of fish and what water she could find that wasn't salty, it had been a bit hard to get used to. For instance, the girl would do almost anything for a hair straightner at the moment. Or a change of clothes. Sure, she had been luckier than most to get away with what she was wearing as well as two other sets of clothing, but that didn't necessarily mean anything. More than anything, Sable wanted to have her family back. She stopped her random thoughts right then and there. This was supposed to be a happy night, no depressing thoughts allowed.
Walking onto the part of the beach where the party was going on, she would force a smile upon her face. Pulling her hair back into a high-set ponytail in order to keep her hair from getting in her way for tonight, Sable would spot groups of people scattered everywhere. Typically, she wouldn't avoid people, but, tonight was a night that she was just here simply because everyone else was. Well, that and the fact that the girl had heard about the hunting expedition that Zach and Raion had went on. Taking a deep breath she would glance over to where Zack was skinning the animals. The sight didn't make her sick, but did make her stomach knot however. Eating monkey would be new, something that Sable most likely wouldn't like. But, if it was the closest thing to chicken out here in only who knows where, she supposed it was worth a shot. Besides, she had had enough fish to last her a lifetime within the last few weeks. At least she thought that it had been weeks...
Walking over to the camp fire, she would throw a friendly wave towards Zack and the girl that was with him -Lori she thought her name was- before sitting in the sand barefoot debating rather or not to go and play in the ocean herself as some others were doing all the while pulling her cellphone out of her back pocket. She had come to the conclusion that her music taste was different from the vast majority of others. Scrolling through her play list full of bands like Daughtry, Halsey, My Chemical Romance, We The Kings and Three Days Grace, she would debate on what to play first.

The music playing was the best touch, he thought, but even better was the little bottle of bourbon he had tucked away into a jacket he wore. All day he had let himself take a few sips here and there when nobody was looking. The desire to be back at the little clubhouse of wonders clashed with his rational side of enjoying the moment here and now. He was ready to get back to work with his skinning job when he felt arms snaking around his neck, a body pushing against his back. He recognized the voice of Lori.
He also recognized the sound of her drunk voice. He'd gotten awfully familiar with it lately.
The hug was extremely out of character for her, but the testosterone in him really enjoyed the feel of it. They looked like any other couple out there, but they weren't. She'd probably kill herself when she looked back on this moment all sobered up. He decided it would be fun to play around with it.
"Suit yourself, my Snookems," he cooed back as she commented on the meat he was trying to prepare. She was a lump of weight as she fell back onto him, practically making him lose his balance and fall into the dead body below. He was annoyed, but mostly, it was really funny to be able to witness this Lori while he himself barely had a buzz going.
"Don't go near the water. Don't want you drowning," he reprimanded her, suddenly struck with the realization that he'd probably end up babysitting her tonight. Maybe it wouldn't be so bad. He could really embarrass her. Then, carry her off to their hideaway so he could join her.
A girl passed by and waved at all of them. He nodded back, though he kept his hands working.
Raion felt happy to be alive. There was so much going for him. He had Kelly and a place to sleep, and in a sick way his prayers to be taken away from his personal hellhole at home had been answered. He was glancing uncomfortably at Zach and Lori. The girl seemed smashed, but it didn't make sense how she had found enough to get that way. That was besides the point, though. Raion was almost uncomfortable by their body language. It reminded him of things of the past. He escaped and made his way through the sands, choosing to take a seat near Sable, who was nearby the fire. She didn't seem to gravitate toward anyone, and Raion enjoyed quiet company. He politely glanced at what she was fumbling with. More music. "A working cellphone. Thank goodness some of us still have those. Aren't you gonna miss the music when it's finally gone, though?" he asked her with curiosity.

Lori began to laugh as he stumbled under her weight. "Feelin' weak?" she slurred, undraping her arms from him and falling to her butt beside him. She tilted her head back and watched him as she cut the monkey. She couldn't imagine eating that. Watching the entire process caused her stomach to churn, but maybe it was just the alcohol. She wasn't entirely sure which it was, but her head was spinning. She sighed deeply, watching as others walked around them.
"But a dip sounds like a lot of fun," she cooed, tilting her head as she watched him with lazy eyes. "We could make it a little...interesting," she said to him, raising her eyebrows as she suggestively shrugged off the strap of her tank top. "Can't someone else slaughter the monkeys?" she whined, her plump lips pouting out as she bent her knees up towards her chest, bare feet digging at the dark sand.
The fire behind Zach outlined his body for Lori to see, and she noticed his concentration on the monkeys. She wondered how his day had gone. They hadn't been in the clubhouse all morning, or at least, he hadn't. She had been staying in the clubhouse as much as she could, even sleeping on the makeshift bed instead of going back to the caves. She had found a safe place on the island, and she would have loved for Zach to have spent more than just the morning with her there. But, after Raion and him had learned to catch monkeys, she had lost her distraction.
She wanted to reach out to him, clutch his hand and pull him to her so that they could spend more time together. She was drunk, and maybe she would regret this when she was sober, but with the stash in their clubhouse, she wasn't sure when that day would come. If she could help it, she would stay drunk for the rest of her time on this island, whether that was because she drank herself to death, or the very unlikely case of being rescued.
Rescue. Would that happen? They had been here for nearly a month now. They had lost so many, but here remained the rest of them, surviving. Would anyone still be looking for them all a month from the crash? She swallowed, eyes watering before she looked back at Zach, distracting herself from the thought that they would be stuck on this island for the rest of their pathetic lives.
