i wonder where were you? when i was at my worst

notes: -- ❥ THERE WERE TIMES when winding down and taking a moment to think was the best course of action. Often times a tired mind lead to rash and foolish decisions, caused mistakes and roused up arguments. In a situation like the one at hand, those decisions could mean the death of one or, worse, a few. It was for these reasons and many more that Alexander made it a point to set aside some time to think, to relax and be away from he crowd, love it as he may. Sometimes you just needed that time.
Alexander found himself by the lagoon, that precious source of water and peace for so many survivors, himself included. He had drunk his belly full already, had cooled his body off by submerging himself in the water and now he sat bare-chested and soaked, his pants damp from having been pulled onto his wet body. It was quiet there, the sounds of the survivors only a soft hum at best in the background full of animals and the sounds of water.
"I'll get through this, ma" He mumbled, his eyes locked on the surface of the water, legs crossed beneath him as he simply drifted among his thoughts. He often ended up thinking of his parents in times like these and would wonder if he'd be meeting them soon. He always tried to shake those thoughts out of his head as soon as they came, determined to survive and live on like they would've wanted.
The man wasn't really paying attention to his surroundings, his fingers tracing his own legs and fiddling over bruises and cuts that slowly scarred and faded. He'd been lucky to survive, he was going to make sure he didn't let it go to waste. ♚ Made by SYLVIA of SA and GS ♚ |

"This do I swear I will be there" He had already lost track of the amount of days that had been spent in what seemed like an entirely new world. It just seemed like another day traipsing into the unknown and hoping to at least find some glimpse of hope. It seemed though that every time something like that appeared it just made it even worse when said hopes were promptly dashed again. Eating some familiar berries picked from a nearby bush the man kept up a light pace through the trees, making sure to keep a note of his route in order to get back to the shelter of a cave just in case there wasn't one where he ended up. There was a slight soreness to his step after so many days of long walks but Thomas managed to easily combat the dull ache by focusing himself only on what was ahead. Keep looking forward. Wasn't that something he had said a lot before. Now it was his turn to set an example both in the literal and metaphorical sense of the word.
It was the splash as falling water hit the bottom of the waterfalls and dispersed that first drew Thomas towards the lagoon. It was a sound that sent signals to his body. How little water had he actually thought to try and consume while on the island? Not being able to find many sources it hadn't been a lot. Whatever little he had collected had been boiled first for safety and just didn't seem right to him. Eyes taking in the sight of pure water in plentiful supply for the first time in what seemed like forever forbid him from thinking of anything else before rapidly closing the distance between him and the nearest pool of water. Drawing a small device he had been using to collect water the 18 year old dipped it into the pool and then withdrew the container before rapidly drinking the contents. Parched lips seemed to breathe in relief at the feel of the liquid.
It was only after having another drink of water that Thomas noticed he wasn't alone in the area. There was a man near the water. From the beads of water on his bare chest and wet look of his pants it was safe to assume the other man had been in the surrounding pool very recently. The 18 year old didn't doubt that it would be a good way to cool off with the heat the sun gave the island at times. Coming closer to the water he was considering doing the same thing himself but then something else distracted him. In between the clear ripples he could see a face in the water, one he had to take a second loom at to even recognize it as his own. Staring back at him was a slightly dirty faced man with unruly dark hair. The only thing that marked it as Thomas was the eyes and of course the neutral expression that could only belong to him. Reaching a hand to his own face and then to the one in the water he let out a sigh. Did he really already look that different to what he remembered from the mirror at home. As a soft finger touched the water the image started to blur.

notes: ❥ ALEXANDER WOULD SIGH a short breath, his hands bracing on his knees as he pushed himself up off the ground. Time never really stood still, and his sitting there not doing anything wasn't about to help. As he turned to collect his dirty and dinged up t-shirt he paused, suddenly aware that he wasn't alone. Was he really that distracted that he hadn't noticed the other man arrive? He shook his head, disregarding it as unimportant. The motion shook his hair, the man idly pushing the strands out of his face after being done.
"Hello" He'd call out, grabbing his shirt from off its perch as he stepped towards the man, keeping a bit of a comfortable distance between them. "I don't think I've had the pleasure. I'm Alexander" His voice was calm and friendly, his features pulled into a light smile. He couldn't really help his own smile; he liked people, and he hadn't had the opportunity to properly meet the other survivors yet. Something that he should remedy, considering how long they'd all been stuck on that island by now.
Alexander observed the boy, noting his height and build. From the looks of it they were the same height, give or take. He looked as dirty and beat up as he himself had looked earlier; he still looked bad by a sight, but at least he was a little bit cleaner after throwing himself into the water. Without access to a brush though his hair would inevitably style itself into dreadlocks eventually. Not a thought he was particularly keen of.
This past month had seen its fair share of trials, the biggest of which was coping to their new 'home'. He worried for everyone and it showed in the way he looked at people, even the boy he watched now, with his hands resting on his hips and his t-shirt balled up in his fist.

"This do I swear I will be there" After the image in the water became more stable he drew his eyes away from it. Looking around the area it actually surprised at how pretty and serene the place was. At least until he catches sight of the other man that had almost been forgotten due to Thomas' sudden interest in his reflection. Now that the stranger was on his feet the 18 year old could see the two were around the same height. It was a small comfort to him knowing this since it wasn't often the man randomly bumped into someone that he didn't tower over. It didn't look like the other male had spotted him yet so Thomas took the time to just observe him while he pushed some strands of hair out of his face. That didn't last long before it seemed he was noticed since the man was stepping straight towards him.
Thomas was greeted in a friendly manner by the man, who it turned out was called Alexander. It started with a simple hello while Alexander retrieved a shirt from nearby. From the state of the shirt it looked like the man had faced the same sort of problem as him with only having one set of clothes to hand. Well, Thomas couldn't exactly judge since his shirt looked even worse and added to the fact he hadn't just soaked in the water like the other man it proved he was in a much worse state of dress than just having a rather dirty shirt. There was still a small distance between the two men which the 18 year old respected. He too liked to keep a bit of space when meeting someone knew. Being too close just felt a little uncomfortable for some reason, especially with his height.
As Alexander introduced himself there was a light smile that came with the words. To Thomas a smile was always a good thing to go on when it came to a first impression of somebody. This smile seemed natural and friendly. Sure it might not have been a lot to go on but it was something towards the positive. The man seemed happy and friendly enough not to be a threat to him at the moment and for now that was enough. The tall male looked Alexander in the eye before speaking himself. "Thomas." His gaze shifted from the other man to the water, wondering if he should follow the example he had just seen and clean himself off a little in the water. It was something he hadn't thought of doing in goodness knows how long and the figure that he barely registered as a reflection had shown him the effect it had had on his body. He knelt down at the edge of the water and submerged his wrist in the substance. "Just right," were the only words heard before Thomas slowly went into the water, throwing off his shirt before getting waist deep in the cool pool.

notes: ❥ ALEXANDER couldn't help but to offer another small smile to the man, his hand idly unbunching the t-shirt in his hand and slinging it over his shoulder. Thomas seemed a man of few words, a feature that Alexander could respect. Normally he would have left it at that, perhaps gone off to search for supplies or try and figure some way to brush his hair. But Alexander had been deprived of social contact too long and he would not allow this opportunity to go by.
"I am glad to see another big man well. I was beginning to feel like the odd one out" He said lightly, turning to face him as he walked to the water. His comment on the temperature of the water brought out a small laugh, a hand running through his hair as he stood. "It was a little cold for my own liking, but the feeling of fresh water on the skin was enough to make me forget that. Enjoy it"
Alexander would take a few tentative steps forward, careful not to violate any personal spaces too quickly. He wished for conversation, not an uncomfortable moment. He sat back down facing the water, his knees brought up and his arms resting on them in a casually comfortable position. Perhaps it wasn't as productive as gathering resources, but it would be payout enough to make acquaintances if he could.
